Camouflage in the Garden
When is the last time you were picking tomatoes, and put your hand right on a huge, ugly tomato worm? Yuck!! Worms and insects, actually in many cases, "look like" their typical habitat!! Thus they are camouflaged, or "hidden" from the enemy!
This gallery is a place where we can all post examples of camouflage we see in our gardens. Butterflies mimic others in color, and they hide" on leaves. Poisonous and non-poisonous insects often look alike, reproduce, and replenish. An example is the Monarch, and the Viceroy Butterfly. Birds soon learn that the Monarch is poisonous, and has a bad taste, so they are left to reproduce, while the Viceroys become a handy lunch for Daddy BlueBird. Animals also change colors, according to the background they are resting on.
When you go to your garden, take your camera! You just can't depend on that critter you saw hiding on the tomato stalk to stay there while you go inside for the camera! Post those pictures here with a brief title, and bit of info: name; zone; date; etc.
I'm already looking to seeing a lot of pics of camouflage in your gardens!
