What's your favorite quilting tool

For the past gazillion years my favorite tool has been a small piece of surgical rubber which I use to pull the needles through tough material. ( I tie demin backed quilts) Sometimes it is almost impossible to pull the needle and yarn through.

When I have blood drawn I always take the tourniquet with me. The lab tech has always been good to give it to me, now they just throw them away.  We use to use pliers for needle pulling but these work so much better.

My second favorite item is my quilting frames I make them myself and just love them.

I wish I had time to make

I wish I had time to make quilts. I have been on a new shift now for a year and now work 12 hours a day. I get more days off, but by the time I get house work and yard work done. My days off are done too.I just got a new sewing machine for Christmas, so maybe now I will have to find the time.

Lyn Penny I know what you

Lyn Penny I know what you mean about the rotary cutter and mat they are a must.

Grannyrose thanks for the info, those quilting horses are the greatest. I use stands one on each corner of the quilt. The stands I use can be cut out of a half sheet of plywood. This year I am going to set up a pulley system so that when I am not at the quilt working on it then I can raise it up to the ceiling and out of the way until I'm ready to work on it again. Someone told me about it and it sounds pretty clever and easy.

Oh wouldn't that be nice.

Oh wouldn't that be nice.  I always want to have a place to put it between time when I'm  working on it.

I forgot to add that I

I forgot to add that I have been using surg. rubber forever. The first ones I used were the rubber gasket from an IV bottle, yes I am that old.

Please grannyrose tell me what a quilting horse is. Maybe we just call  them by a different name

Coco, the quiliting horse

Coco, the quiliting horse is a portable saw horse.  I found a patten.  I think this is the one I used to make mine.  The top of it is flat so that you can drill large holes in it and your quilt frame.  You roll your quilt in the two frames on each side then attach it to the quilting horse.  The quilt is stable as you sew. my favorite quilting tool is

my favorite quilting tool is the rotory cutter and mat.  I used to try to cut things with sissors and that is nothing but a headache.  Yeah I'm really that old.

As far as I'm concerned

As far as I'm concerned denim quilts are the  greatest esp. for babies. When you lay the quilt on the floor to put the baby on the quilt does not bunch up under them, the quilt stays flat. For a baby quilt I usually use flannel on the top and denim on the back.

These quilts are almost indestructable!!!!!!

 Hey, Coco, I make

Hey, Coco, I make denim quilts, too.  I've never tried tying them, but love your tip about the surgical rubber.  I never would have thought of that.  I machine top stitch on the quilts, but could use a trick for pulling needles through tough fabrics on some other projects. Thanks!
