The other day a big storm blew through our area and a 40'+ foot pine fell down. It turned out the squirells had a nest in that tree and I coudn't help but feel sorry for the rodent even if they always eatmy bulbs. How would you have felt?

Ugh. Squirrels.

Yeah, they really are cute, but so destructive!

daylilyfanatic, I know how you feel. Several years ago, I was in my second old house, which was not quite as plagued with squirrels as the one before. The first one was infested, and as much as I hated having the little varmints (especially when we were trying to sell) I tried only humane ways to get them out. The second one, we had to kill only one because there was no other way to get him out, and sealing off the entrance actually worked to keep more from coming in. Yet, as much as I hated them in my house, when a friend and I found a litter that looked like their tails had been tied together, we took several hours to capture them and take them to an emergency vet, and paid for the appointment! As it turned out, there was no alternative but euthanasia, and my friend and I were both crushed. Go figure.

Even if they're pests, they're living creatures. You might not want them living with you or destroying your stuff, but you don't want them to suffer.

Squirrels are just plain stubborn!

You may be right about that Randy. My mother has had them living in her attic, and at one point, they took up residence in my bedroom and occupied my bed! At one point, the animal control people who came to get them found 7 and they found about 4 more at another time. We were worried they'd eat insulation or the roof.....They are a menace. My mom lives in Chicago, and they've had record amounts of snow this year, so I figure they were looking for a warm place!

I'm surprised we haven't had

I'm surprised we haven't had them move into our attic area.  There are surely plenty of them around.  I don't think the grandkids have kept it up, but when we first moved here, they named all the squirrels and apparently knew which was which.  There is at least one of the birdhouse I put up that was taken over by squirrels.  They enlarged the opening to accommodate their size.

I would have felt the same

I would have felt the same way.  I don't like them eating my birdseed, but they don't care if I like it or not.  Trying to outwit a squirrel is like trying to outwit a 3 year old.  I'm not sure it can be done.  LOL
