Storing bulbs

I moved this post for Sunflowers3.  It's a great tip!... I wouldn't want it to be missed...

I just got some bulbs from 1violetheart and was wondering how to store them till I can plant them. Well I found a mesh bag like a turkey or onions come in and put them in those and tied, and labeled each, this way they can still get air and not mold on me, I thought it was very clever, so save those mesh bags and reuse them this way. Hope you like this idea and give it a try, karen

I have a question about

I have a question about Dahlias? Are you uppose to dig them up every year? The new ones I bought are coming up already but none of my old ones are coming up.I think that I might have lost them.

Dahlias are hardy for zone 7-11

Mary, Dahlias are hardy for zone 7-11, but if you had them in a wet or damp spot, the tubers could have easily rotted.  Here's a link to more info on dahlias

Dahlia

Here in zone 5a, I do have to dig them up every fall or treat them as an annual.

Another way to store bulbs...

You could also use old panty hose for this. Bulb, tie a knot, bulb, tie a knot - You could even store your onion or garlic crop this way and just cut off one as you need it.

Great idea!

What a great idea, sunflower3! The only thing I would add is that it's best to be sure you're storing them in a cool and dark place!
