Just came across a new tip for starting perennial seeds:

Mix ingredients together, pour amount needed into a small dish, add your perennial seeds, soak overnight, discard tonic and plant seeds as you normally would.

1 cup vinegar

1 Tbspn dishwashing liquid

2 cups warm water

* Each seed type should have it's own dish to keep them separate.

Here's another Seed Starter Solution for any type seeds!

1 tsp baby shampoo

1 tsp Epsom salts

1 quart weak tea water

Mix ingredients in a bowl. Bundle up your seeds in cheesecloth or pantyhose (one type per bundle). Drop the bundles into the liquid, and put the container in the fridge to soak for up to 24 hours. Plant as soon as they come out.

Very Interesting

That was a very interesting tip.  What does the dishwashing soap do?  Did not know that vinegar kills weeds.  I assume it won't hurt the plants.  You all are teaching me a lot!  Greatly appreciated!!!

Vinegar is acidic

Vinegar is acidic - that's why using it full strength on weeds will kill them. But, there are other uses for diluted vinegar in gardening -

Increase soil acidity:
In hard water areas, add a cup of vinegar to a gallon of tap water for watering acid loving plants like rhododendrons, gardenias or azaleas. The vinegar will release iron in the soil for the plants to use.

Plant Nutrients
Mix vinegar and water in a ratio of 1 part vinegar to 8 parts water.  Mix a separate solution of sugar and water in a mixture of 1 part sugar to 8 parts water.  Combine the vinegar and sugar mixtures just before use.  Add to plant as long as needed.

Seeds - apparently, the acidity helps break down the outer coating on seeds, so they get started germinating quickly.  As I said, I'll be trying some with & some without to see how it does.
