Fabulous idea! I have a
I love this idea!
Awesome! So, I know you made

So far......
I have finished 2: a clear flat marble over a blue swirled bb and a red, white & blue star design on 1 side & a irredescent black on opposite side bb.
Also covered a yellow croquet ball w/clear irredescent marble w/a white swirl, added a butterfly decoration. My grandson has finished a blue croquet ball w/clear marbles.
I plan on doing a gazing bb w/pennies OR nickles (which ever I gather the most of 1st), dark bb w/blue flat marbles. And will be spray painting 1 or 2 bb's. My daughter has plans for a beautiful red bb I have. Many ideas..lots of marbles...lol, who knows what I may come up with!?
Will take pictures & share.
This is such a fun project because of it being THRIFTY. Bowlingballs were FREE from freecycle, marbles were given to me FREE or purchased at Goodwill for very little $$. The only cost is glue.
Hope anyone @GH making gazers..share pics also, please.

SandiB, where are you
SandiB,
where are you planning to display these gazing balls? In your garden? Do you have a perfect spot yet? Tatyana

Tatyana..
I have several places in different gardens for my "gazing balls". Will be making at least 3 more to finish what I have planned. So will have them displayed here & there & everywhere .
Plan on taking pictures & sharing.
The best part of my gazing bb's are that my BIG pups will NOT be able to run off & play w/these! lol.
With the sun hitting the "gazers"..they will look spectacular (right Maw?) Unique for sure
IT IS SPRING!!

What kind of glue did you use and did you grout the marbles when the glue dried???
I am heading to the free cycle or the thrift store asap.

glue I used..
Hey CoCo
The glue I used is a CLEAR SILICONE ADHESIVE SEALANT. I did not grout altho it can be done..and you can color the grout to match using an acrylic paint. I have seen some bowling balls done is mosaic using mirror or tile pieces, very pretty!
Check your local bowling alley for bowling balls..may be free or cheap?!
Thrift stores, Goodwills for flat marbles.
HAVE FUN!

Thanks so much for sharing the info...YES! I think it would be too much Sandi..LOL

"gazing" bowling ball
THANKS for the compliments! This is my 1st bowling ball..but I have 4 more to "play" with..and LOTS of flat marbles of different colors. I am working on a "patriotic star" now using red white & blue & some black to finish off the bottom side. One of my plans is to make either a penny or a nickel gazing ball :) I will spray paint a diferent color 1st..depending on which I do and use a ployurthane spray after.
Susan..yes the bowling ball was blue..sort of a smoky swirled blue so it gave the clear marbles a different color in different places. You can always sand the bowling ball alittle & spray paint any color you like...put any color flat marbles you like (walmart sells flat marbles BUT I got most mine thro Goodwill & bro in law)..bowlingballs came from freecycle and friends that had no use for them. So my cost is low except for the glue...which is a clear adhesive (waterproof).
Everyone should try this project..it is fun! There is a site > garden junk that has sooo many ideas for bowlingballs..take a look!
And flwrs..the blue bb weighs 16lbs..shipping & handling be much $$ huh? lol..
Again, thanks for the compliments.
