I thought under this topic we could share pictures and info on our Cacti and Suucculents!

 I am starting with one that I received from nhhoney. Cacti and succulents are new to me but I am hooked! I am finding that there are So Many! And I can't get ENOUGH! :-) Ok my first one is ....

Cephalocereus Palmeri Also Known as a Woolly Torch

Cephalocereus Palmeri" alt="" border="" hspace="" vspace="" width="" height="" align="" />

Temperature Zone: 9b-11 Frost Tolerance: Hardy to 28 °F Minimum Avg. Temperature: 55 °F

Sun Exposure: Light shade to full sun

Origin: Southern Mexico to Guatemala and Honduras

 Growth Habits: Columnar branched cactus, fast growing, up to 20 feet tall ; 7-14 ribs; 1 dark brown central spine on young stems, up to 1.2 inches long ; 8 to 12 lighter shorter radials

Watering Needs: Regular water and fertilizer from late spring to early fall. Light watering in winter

Propagation: Seeds that provide slow growing seedlings, or easily by cuttings

 Blooming Habits: The area where the flowers will grow has much denser hair than the rest of the stem. The 3 inches long funnel-shaped flowers are whitish to light pink inside, reddish green outside. They are followed by 1.6 inches long red fruit with red pulp and black seeds.

Sun Exposure: Full sun to light shade

Origin: Bolivia, Argentina

Growth Habits: Succulent, grow in group of slender columns up to 8 feet tall, or more, 2.5 inches in diameter; about 25 ribs; 4 longer central spines, up to 1.6 inches long ; over 20 radials

Watering Needs: Water generously during the summer, keep dry in winter, root prone

Propagation: Seeds (cuttings will generally not root)

 

Mammillaria

Minimum Avg. Temperature: 50°F

 

Sun Exposure: Light shade

Origin: Mexico

Growth Habits: Solitary, slowly growing up to 1.6 inches tall, 2 inches wide , tuberous roots, 16 radial spines, single central spine

Watering Needs: Water sparingly, needs good drainage

Propagation: Seeds, cuttings in summer

Growth Habits: Tree-like cactus, up to 13 feet tall , 10 feet in diameter ; stems up to 20 inches long ; 1 to 4 spines, up to 3.2 inches

Watering Needs: Little water

Propagation: Cuttings

 Blooming Habits: Red flowers, up to 2.4 inches long
