Since the Bean Patch was without doubt, one of the most popular threads on our other site, I thought that it was only fitting that we bring it on over here. So, to start the thread off, I thought I would show everyone my Chinese Red Noodle Beans that I am growing from seed. They are supposed to be highly nutritious and easy to grow in hot weather. They are also said to be vigorous producers. The beans when mature can be anywhere from 18 to 20 inches long.

Bean patch thread

I've pulled the Bean Patch thread back up in Over The Picket Fence forum. I'd love to add Rosie's name in front of the title but I don't have an edit tab to do it. Maybe one of the managers can do it. Don't know why I didn't do that when I started it!

The original thread was started and restarted in the "Over The Picket Fence" forum in the old site for years. I think it's over looked here in the Vegetables and Small Crops forum.

Gloria, my dear, this IS

Gloria, my dear, this IS the original Bean Patch over here! I started this one in honor of our beloved bean expert.

For those of you who are inquiring about him and his dear queen, I did talk to Mrs. Rosie before the start of the new year. She sounded quite well, all things considered. She said Rosie was supposed to have some tests done -- a few days after I spoke to her, and then some more done a week or two later. She promised me that she'd let me know what the results were, but I haven't heard from her.

Randy, you're right. In Rosie's case, no news is NOT good news. I'm very worried, but I don't want to put them on the spot and make them think I am checking up on things. One thing I know for certain about Mr. Rosie, and I love him dearly....he likes to keep things private, so I suppose we need to respect that.

On the other hand, we sure do miss him around here. I can't wait for him to return! We'll throw out the confetti when he does!

Another 'bean patch' thread

Another 'bean patch' thread was started in the "picket fence" forum and that one may replace this one.  If it does though, I would like to see the name of this one used.  I like to see Mr. Rosie as part of the name.

Thanks, Randy! I guess it's only fitting that the Bean Patch should bear the name of the person who started it in the first place! Speaking of Mr. Rosie, I sure do miss that guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder how he's doing! This place is ever so lonely without our dear friend!

Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgiving to all you wonderful folks and your families. I hope you all have a wonderful day filed with joy, peace, friends, family, and loads of good food . I send you good wishes and may many blessings reign on you all.

Gloria

Good morning, Miss Gloria.

Good morning, Miss Gloria.  And I also wish you and all a wonderful day of thanksgiving.

Good evening, bean

Good evening, bean patchers.  I was out for a good part of the day today with visiting.  I had a great time with my morning visit.  The afternoon visit is not nearly as much fun as the residents are worse off than the Alzheimers patients.  But they can not help the way they are and I shall go visit them anyway.  I have missed everybody, although I got to see WI yesterday.  I sure am glad she lives close.
Gloria's picture

I'm here this morning too,

I'm here this morning too, Wild Iris. We are expecting some much needed rain today so I suppose I will just do some inside cleaning and maybe work on a cross stitch I'm doing. It's a Bible cover that I'm going to give Mom for Christmas. I finished a large cross stitch last month but haven't framed it yet. I was so proud of it cause I started it twice...The first one I didn't read directions and used too many strands of thread so when I realized I would run short of thread, I threw it in the garbage. But I loved the pic so well, I went out and bought another and started over.

Yes, if you can sell your eggs, that should cover expenses. I...  like Randy said, just liked watching the chickens and especially the ducks in the pond. I had the white ducks and they left the pond covered with white feathers. I had one rooster that my small dog loved to tease and they played chase games which were hilarious. We also had pigions, horses and attempted a few pigs but hubby's job took us out of town so much till it was best to let them all go. I have to admit I miss the animals. I was brought up on a working farm so it's all very common for me.

Well, I've rattled on enough..again.. so I'll go now. Have a good day.

WildIris's picture

Gloria...yes if we were not

Gloria...yes if we were not selling any eggs ...you bet way lot of money for fresh eggs these days...but I get 12 eggs a day and no way can I or just me and hubby egg ..or even use in baking that many eggs...but at this point I am selling enough to pay for the feed and the shavings and strw...and we have a few bucks to add to the pot...and have all the eggs we need...so I am happy about it..

Yesterday got all the rest of the leaves up...Just in time for another storm to get here and knock the rest down...oh well,,

Trust everyone is doing well ..and resting well..maybe see someone here this morning...will be back...got to get a cup of coffee and read a bit...back later

Howdy!

Good morning all,

Natalie, it's good to see you posting. You're missed whn you stay out of the bean patch very long.

Happy belated anniversary!!! Sounds like you had a restful weekend.

I spent the day yesterday working on a water feature that I was thinking of moving. In the end I just turned it around, added an old hand water pump and cut the gardenia bush back that was the hiding place for all the snakes. Next spring I will add a few small flowering plants around it and maybe some snake repeller.

Dear friend, Rosie, sorry I missed you again this morning but I did email you yesterday. I have to use the #3 font size in order to see my posts too. Yours came up very clear this morning. I don't like the way the posts are  showing, it is confusing, although a reply to someone is usually in a smaller box!!! I hope you are gettting some rest these days. Maybe you could get little Raven to keep an eye on Mrs Rosie while you nap awhile.

Wild Iris, did you get that rooster in the pot last night? I had chickens and ducks a few years back but we finally decide it was cheaper to buy eggs than buy chicken feed.

I'm off to get my day started, have a good one all.

I think that's probably

I think that's probably true, Gloria.  If Fiona figured how many eggs we got versus the dollars spent on checken feed it might surprise her.  I keep a bag of hen scratch in the garage though and when the chickens see me come outside, they run toward me expecting a treat.  That's what that bag of scratch is for.  It's worth it to me though just to see those chickens run.  They sure are funny.

Hello Everyone!

I had quite a nice weekend thanks to my wonderful hubby! We celebrated our 6th anniversary by staying in a ritzy hotel and doing absolutely nothing!! I know it sounds boring but it was exactly what I needed.

I went to see Michael in his school musical and he was really good. I'm hoping this gives him the confidence he needs to try more things.

Rosie, what was your bad news? I can't tell if you posted what it was or not with the way the posts are coming up. None the less, you and the missus are definately in my prayers.

I hate to cut it short but I'm at work and can't stay on the internet long. I just wanted to check in on everyone since I didn't get on the computer any this past weekend.

Take care everyone!

Natalie

Honeymoon,

Good morning Natalie,

I am going to try a #3 size font to see if I can see it after the reply is posted.

it makes me happy to see folks still enjoying the honeymoon after 6 years. If you think you had a nice week end this trip you just wait. They just keep getting better and better. It will get to the point where you will have so much fun that you will wonder why more people do not do it.

At this time the way things look Mrs.Rosie and I may just have to roar up and down main street in our little town in our wheel chairs to celebrate our 47th anniversary.

The Doctor has not got around to telling us the bad news yet. We called his office Monday like he told us to and he never did call us back or yesterday either so I may just forget that I ever went to him in the first place.  I may just go out into the woods and get me a basket full of roots and fix what is wrong with my body. I need to get some anyway to help Mrs. Rosie sleep. Then I might rest better. I went to bed early last night so I could listen to her incase she had any problem when she retired for the night. I know she could probably make out alright but I had to do it for so long and the habit is hard to break and I doubt if I every can or would if I could.

Michael will likely try over things now. A lot of young people start out in music and go right on up the ladder.

It smells like the coffee is ripe so I guess I may as well go get a cup while I wait for a few folks climb down out of the nest.

I'm back, but both of you

I'm back, but both of you ladies are long gone by now.  I have my visiting done for the day.  The morning session went great with about 10 people gathering around the tables.  I only had one at the afternoon visit and he was pretty sleepy.  He managed to stay awake, but barely.  Doesn't matter though.  As long as there is someone there, I will do what I can to brighten their day a little bit.

I think I beat the chickens up most mornings these days...but hey time to think and read and get caught up...Wink...specking of chickens I need to get my second roster out...think it may be soup tonight...

WOW 80's ...I would love that...been cold here ...and don't think that shall change any time soon....the joy of the northwest...LOL..

Also should get many things done today ...but not sure that will happen...always tomorrow...

Good morning Wild Iris, I

Good morning Wild Iris, I suppose we are the only Bean Patchers that get up with the chickens. Rosie does but I think he is very busy these days. I hope we hear from him sometime this morning. I see a couple more online but not in the patch.

It's a bit chilly here this morning but our temps are suppose to start rising again today..back to the 80 degree mark. The plants will not know what to do!!!! New growth will start just in time to get shot down by the cold again. This has been some of the weirdest weather I've ever seen.

I've got loads to do today but I'll check back in later this morning. Have a nice day everyone.

Good morning!

Many blessing to you all this fine morning.

Just the mention of Thanksgiving makes me wonder where the last year has gone. Seems the older I get... the faster a year passes by. I suppose I need to start planning the Thankgiving meal. Usually it's just hubby and me but this year I've been informed the children and grands will be with us.

Sorry I missed you this morning, Rosie and Wild Iris. I have gottten into the habit of getting a few extra winks in the mornings now. There's not a lot I can do till the sun comes up anyway. This morning it is hot chocolate for me...I need a little change from the usual coffee. Change is good..right?

Mr. Randy, what am I going to do with you??? Of course I don't have critters with glasses, if that were the case they would have seen me coming and scatted off my mators before I had a chance to spray them!!!!! Agriavating varmints didn't have a clue!!

   Well Kind Sir...I

Well Kind Sir...I hear what you are saying on what others may want or expect with ones lin eof work...and for the most part Mike feels the same as you ....but when it comes to oyu and oyur family it is not the same....and with all that has gone down in the past days here....as Michael said...really it would not be the same ...if you understand ...:) on Thanksgiving dinner...I and Michael would love nothing more to share it with you all...but th night before the world came crashing in My daughter asked me to have it for some people and I said of course it would be my honor...and I gave my word to these people...and as oyu know how I feel...I have nothing more that my word ...so I will honor this ...MF said that is something changed ....even on Thanksgiving day....we could still come ...as badly as I would like to not have to cook and all ...I am Thankful...that I am able to ...I htink I amany ways...:)....so ...good grife I am rambleing here...told myself I wouldn;t do this...

Gloria...I am keeping you in my prayers...as I know th epain personal troubles can bring...just know I am here for oyu if you need....

I understand!  If you are

I understand!  If you are up to it and you have the time, you could stop by for dessert.  But that is up to you since you may feel more like kicking back after dealing with company.  The dinner is the main thing for the day, not the food necessarily, but the time of Thanksgiving around the table prior to the meal.  I can never come away from that with dry eyes.
Gloria's picture

I have no subject

Good evening to ya all,

Randy, I use the 2 on my posts and they still come up very small..I'm trying a 3 now, I hope it does better.

I like seeing the Bean Patch grow with folks stopping in to visit. I have had a rough week with personal problems and a little virus bug to boot. Hopefully next week will bring brighter days and I can concentrate more on GH.

Heidi, I know what you mean about the house looking like a jungle..mine really does. I brought in a tomato plant in a bucket and wondered why it was dissappearing!!! There were these worms just eating it up but I hate wearing glasses so I missed them. When I finally realized today what was going on with it, I sprayed it good and removed all the critters I saw (with glasses on.)  I sure hope it survives cause it has quite a few mators on it.

Then there's the palm plants I have in huge pots that are getting some size on them (3 yrs old) but they can't take the frost. I'm blessed to have room to store them thru the winter.  I didn't realize how many pot plants I had till I had to bring them in.

Well, it's time to get supper on so I'll check with you all in the morning.

Good morning Dear Gloria,

Good morning Dear Gloria,

And all who are up or will be in a few hours. Sorry you have had a stressful few days. I hope your bad days are not like mine which remind me of grapes. They mostly come in big bunches.  As a matter of fact I expect some bad news today but at least we will know what we are up against which will be better than just guessing.

I will start boxing up some greasy bean seed to mail out in a few days. I will have to get my mailing list made out so I will not miss anyone. I might as I told Heidi put a few pumpkin seed from the big one that Raven grew this year.

Coffee time again. I see four cups on the table now but not gloria's

Prettylady may get a big pumpkin seed or two for sure.

Be Back In a jif.

I too am having the same problem with the fonts.  I choose font size 3 so it is a good size to read.

Miss WI, Mike is not the

Miss WI, Mike is not the only one I know that does that kind of work for a living.  But I know how much fun it is to do that for a living and then give away family time to help someone else.  Now if I really was stuck, I am not above yelling for help.  But as long as I have the time and can do it, I won't bother a friend unless it's to gripe and compare notes aftre the fact.  Fiona said that if I could not do it for her, she would have been without wheels for the length of time it would have taken to save up the money to have it done.  They had some soup at the church today after the service and the family stuck around and had a bowl of soup.  David sat at the table with me along with the rest of the family and I told him that when I worked on a car, I did not have a sense of humor and did not like anyone to bother me.  I have a lousy attitude.  He, of course, had some snide remark to make.  Couldn't expect anything different from him.  LOL  Tell Mike though that I appreciate his willingness to help though.  I did service work on furnaces, appliances, and air conditioners for many years and there were people in my neighborhood that thought I should service their equipment for free.  When Michael comes over here, I would rather sit around and drink coffee and swap lies.  BTW, MF said she invited the two of you for Thanksgiving dinner.  Sure would like you to share the day with us.

Randy sorry to hear of your

Randy sorry to hear of your unfortunate events with the car. I am so glad that I barter for the repairs on my car. I have a friend who I clean his house occasionally and he fixes anything I need done on my car... rear brakes and new belts are due soon! LOL

Rosie, glad to see you and the Mrs are up and about today. I am making a list of what I am going to grow, and new supplies I will need for next season's veggie garden. My list seems to keep growing and growing, I sure hope I will have enough room for everything!

My house is starting to look like a jungle invaded it thanks to the good people here on GH! I now have pots of plants everywhere! Glad my S.O. doesn't care about things like that. He is so easy going :)

Been thinking alot about Christmas this year. I am very excited, even more so than in years past for some reason. Might have something to do with the little one that was born in June. Growing like a weed. A good weed for sure!

We are having dinner with friends this evening. First time in a long time and can't wait. I love the chance to get over and spend time with the little ones. Jack who is 4 got to have his own veggie garden for the first time this year and loved it. Maybe next summer I can get him to help with mine! LOL Isn't it amazing the looks on a child's face when they pick something right from the garden and eat it? He was so proud of his veggies.

A bit brisk this morning it was.... only 39 here. Crawled out of bed, started the coffee pot and stoaked up the old wood stove. It is nice and warm inside, but still brisk out.

Hope everyone has a great day.....

Haven't had time to read

Haven't had time to read all this but wanted to stop by and say hi.

Glad to see Wildiris posting.

I have to adjust my font size everytime I post if not if comes out like this???

I think I am going to have

I think I am going to have to start wearing my glasses all the time now.  I need to go in for a new pair too.  Everything is so expensive.

Snow

Good morning Mt.blubird,

Have you got any new snow lately? How did your Greasy Beans do? Ours done good but we did not get many picked except some for seed. The way things look now we may not grow much of anything next year. I do want Little Raven to keep trying to grow big pumpkins.

We have a great neighbor that will help her in anyway that he can and we might can watch from the old rocking chair.

We need to butcher another pie pumpkin today so I can make my Mrs. Rosie a pie for supper.

It looks like our Dear Gloria is still under a pile of quilts.

Coffee time once again. Hope you and everyone else has a wonderful day.

Rosie

Good evening, bean

Good evening, bean patchers.  Day is dying in the west.  I worked on my daughter's car today changing the water pump.  WildIris's husband works on cars for a living.  My hat's off to him.  I have a pretty decent attitude most of the time, but automotive work can turn me into a bear.  I don't want to see anybody or talk to anybody.  I got the water pump changed out though and it works.  I did see a pinhole leak in a short section of hose that I will have to address tomorrow.  After church, my attitude may be better.  LOL

Good morning Wild iris. How

Good morning Wild iris. How are you this fine Saturday morning? Coffee sure taste better when the temperatures drop.

I took a walk around my yards yesterday and the frost has pretty well turned everything brown. Sure glad I got all my potted things in before the cold came. My turnips, mustards collards and such are growing nicely. The cold doesn't hurt those, at least not yet. Frost actually makes them taste better.

I need to do a lot of maintence to my flower beds while they sleep this winter but I think I'll recruit one of the grands to help me.

I'm wondering where everyone is this morning, it is Saturday so they all must be getting a little extra sleep this morning. Have a good day and I'll check back later.

Greetings From Western North Carolina

Well Dear Gloria,

And all Bean Patchers as well as the whole Garden here site. I had another little short note telling about what all that sneaky Doc and Mrs. Rosie done to me yesterday evening and last night all ready to post this morning and you will never guess what happened.  Well Mr. Randy knows because the same thing happened to him. When I clicked the post comment the whole site was off line. Guess I will just have to start typing my replies in my mail box and copy and paste them in the bean patch until they post.

I can't believe every  thing that happened to us in just one day. I am going to post this to see where it goes. I may never see it again.

Rosie
