Help!!!! How to Root Successful?

sunshine98's picture

As I watered today I noticed that some dog had broken one of the branches to one of my rosebushes right at the heel. The heel has already dried out so I just cut the thread that it was hanging onto. I watered it and wrapped it and it's sitting in my refrigerator so it'll stay a bit fresh. I'm including some pictures of it so that you can tell me how to root it successfully since I haven't been able to root any rose cutting successfully on my own The cutting is 1 foot long and the stem is a quarter inch thick. It was broken off right at the heel. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you.

Sunshine98 glad you took my advise last night and posted your rooting roses question.  Glad you got some good responses and advise.  Dale

rose cutting

I started several roses from cuttings.  What I did was to take a cutting about 5-6 inches long and remove all but the top two sets of leaves.  I dipped them in rooting hormone and then into a 1 gallon zip lock bag with a couple inches of half miracle grow potting mix and half perlite.  I sat the bag (zipped) in a location with bright light but no direct sun for about 4 weeks.  TADA !!!  Little roots will be visible thru the plastic.

Sand

I read a thing that said to remove all but top 2 or 3 leaves, stick the cutting in sand, put a large jar over it and leave it alone. When new leaves start growing, it's rooted.

Haven't tried it, but I will.
