Hello my name is Kellyn.  I was a member about a year and a half ago.  So I am a re-newbie (if that makes sense)   We moved to the Houston area in July and I have been out of the gardening loop for about a year.   At my old house I had a green house.  Unfortunately now we are renting an I am gardening out of pots. Frown  We are going to be buying a home this summer around Livingston.  I have already hinted to my hubby that I need some land.   I hope to have enough room for some raised beds, fruit trees and flowers.  I can't wait to get in the loop again.  (I have 4 boys so gardening is my outlet)  My motto: he (hubby) won't notice just one more plant Innocent

There is always room for one more plant.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.  Grannyrose didn't I send you some brandy-wine tomatoes a few years ago??  Skbeal rain is definitely abundant here.  When we first moved to Houston it rained every day for 2 weeks.

Welcome fellow Texan

Hello Kellyn, I live in the Houston area and grow many plant in pots because of my clay soil including tomatoes and tropicals.  This year I have some raised beds. My plants are peaking out and my azaleas and red hibiscus are blooming.

We look forward to talking to you more often. Grannyrose

Welcome home from a fellow

Welcome home from a fellow Texan and a fellow renter! Believe me, I figure out anyway I can to plant things....I steal the land around me too if I have to do that (not really steal, just appropriate any empty spaces around my apartment,) and fortunately, by summer, I've got quite an array of cool things blooming, many in pots, some in the ground. My neighbors love the stuff, and look forward to seeing the blooms. You'll be able to do a lot of stuff in pots -- even tomatoes, but man do they consume water around here....I'd have to water them twice a day at times. it's already starting to get hot here. Right now, it's about 80 degrees and is going up to 85. I'm not looking forward to turning the a/c on by the first of March, so (knock on wood,) maybe we won't have to resort to that. I already have an iris that's about to open and some blue flax and calendula that's starting to bloom. My bluebonnets are up and thriving but haven't bloomed yet. I expect them to do so within the next couple of weeks....but we haven't had much rain this winter. Have you? I'm up between Waco and Austin not far from Fort Hood.
