Growing Potatos
Submitted by Heidi_McC on Wed, 03/05/2008 - 21:20
Things you need:
- Sturdy wire fencing (each piece needs to be 4-5 feet tall and 3-4 feet long)
- Seed Potatoes
- Fertilizer
- Rich loose soil, compost, etc to fill with
This is what you do:
- Roll each fence piece into a circle, fasten the ends so you end up with a cylinder about 3 feet around and 4-5 feet tall
- Use this to mark where you are going to grow the taters
- Till up the soil and add some fertilizer
- Plant 5-6 seed potatos in each spot, cover them with about 3 inches of soil
- Place the fence cylinder upright around where you just planted the seed potatos and anchor it well.
- As the Potato plants grow up add more soil, compost, grass clippings (from untreated grass) leaves, whatever you have around the bottoms of the plants allowing just the tops of the plants to stay about the soil level.
As the Potato plants grow they will shoot new potatos into the soil you have added, so at the end of the year you should have a wire form full of nice fresh Potatos..... Now you just have to find a nice cool place to store them until you eat them all!
Enjoy!
Maybe since Ihave fencing
Maybe since Ihave fencing and tires maybe I'll try some both ways and decide which I like best.

I have tried it with tires
What a great idea I am
What a great idea
I am going to try growing spuds in old tires. It works about the same as the fence you just stack the tires on top of each other and we have too many old tires around here so this way we can recycle them.
Thanks
