The cost of seeding

(The cost of starting the seeds)
·         I’ve organized my seeds.
·         Printed labels for the peat pots.
·         Categorized seeds to be grouped together in beds.
And what has it all cost? Is seeding truly cost effective? That is the question I will hope to answer within the next 6 months of gardenging.
Tonight the florescent lamps cost $8.62 from my local Wal-mart and the bulbs were additional $6.24, all of that multiplied by two. The cost of three seedling bags of soil, $22.34 and then plastic wrap to top the pots!  So my ambitious endeavor is to create a cost effective way to begin plants to fill my yard with. Tonight I am beginning to chart the progress of the seedlings as they grow. As each day progresses and pictures are added, please feel free to add any information needed! All of these seeds will later be placed into beds, and gardens!

Wish me luck dear friends.

I try to recycle everything

I try to recycle everything I can to start my gardens with.  I purchase the seed starting mixture usually at the Christmas Tree Shop for around $2 per bag, I usually only use 1-2 bags.  I compost my own compost, and have a neighbor who has horses, so I add some manure to the compost as well.  I collect these great 25 cell plastic things at work (our pap tests come in them) and they have a cover, so instant greenhouse! I acutally have 4 of those going right now!  when the seeds start to sprout just flip the cover off or cut it off....  I am purchasing 40 tomato cages from another neighbor for a mere $20... that is a huge savings.....  I get my seeds from an reputible Ebay seller, or some of them I get at discount stores around here.  My SO works for a landscape guy, so I can get all the recycled pots I want.... fill them with dirt and plant away....  I try to optimize everything that is free or cheap....

costs

Don't forget that some of those costs will give you items that will last you for years -- like the lights.

God bless-- praying for your needs.     T   Theresa
