Bleeding Heart vine problems

Just recently I noticed my potted bleeding heart vine holding water.  Went out of town for a number of days, came back to find all the leaves gone.  It appears the plant may have root rot.  Today I turned it over and punched more holes in the bottom of pot.  It seems the roots had closed the holes that were already in the pot.  I trimmed it back real well and as I said, punched more holes in bottom.  Is there anything else I can do for this plant?

latest on my bleeding heart vine

Here's the latest with my bleeding heart vine woes.  I was thrilled to see new growth on various vines.  Yippie!  I think it's going to make it.

pink/red bleeding hearts alive and well!

I am so pleased with my pink/red bleeding hearts.  They made it well after I poked more holes and trimmed way back.  I'll try and get a recent pic out to you.

 Unfortunately, most

Unfortunately, most plants will not survive root rot.  You might try taking some cuttings (spring is the best time).  Woody stem cuttings placed in moist peat/perlite mixture is best.  Cover with a plastic bag to prevent moisture loss and place in direct sun or under lights.  I hope you don't lose such a pretty plant!  Good luck!

Hi Lavender 2, I'm just hoping it will survive.  I did take a few cuttings from BH and put in water.  Thanks.  Will keep you posted.

MEG, I know, I wanted to do

MEG, I know, I wanted to do that but didn't know if it would give the plant even more shock.  Don't know.

If your plant is root bound,

If your plant is root bound, it would be best to try re-potting.  Most plants can survive a fairly liberal root-pruning also, but I don't know if that is true for this particular plant.
