Any suggestions on the forums setup?

Some forums have been eliminated, such as the trade forums, as trade lists and trade items are now located under Member Content and are easily searchable.   Other forums such as Zones didn't seem to get much use.   I'd really appreciate feedback on the sleeker approach to our forums.

 Randy, it seemed to both

Randy, it seemed to both me and Al that having things such as all of the seasons and zones were kind of redundant, not to mention major space hogs on the server, and we thought that all of the stuff that is covered in those could be covered in specific conditions like shade, sun, tropical, etc.

As for the Bluegrass Thread, that could go in the Picket Fence. Please realize, though, that nothing from the other site is coming over here. The two software interfaces are incompatible, so we'll be starting out from scratch here.

That sounds like a good

That sounds like a good idea.  There are a couple of people that go there that don't post much otherwise, so I will pave the way for the transition by mentioning where the new thread will be.

Yes Susan, I am an Ohio

Yes Susan, I am an Ohio Buckeye!!  OH--IO!!  Go Bucks!!!

My friend from the little postage stamp size state of Rhode Island says that a buckeye is a nut, so she has fondly nicknamed me the Ohio Nut...lol!

I like the "zone" forum, but

I like the "zone" forum, but I could also see that it wasn't used all that much.  I'm sure that we can find a different spot for something like the "bluegrass thread".

The trade lists will be in

The trade lists will be in a separate area...I am not entirely sure where it is...I think we're going to keep it separate -- like we do the photos...I will look into it though.... Micki, go to the Volunteer area and to the Forum Moderator's Forum. When you think of things like this that need to be addressed or investigated, it would help me and Al tremendously if you share your insights there.  Susan, the Texas Yankee and the Texas Ranger

Just looking for where the

Just looking for where the trade list would be.  Am I missing it?  This is really different and will take some time to get it all figured out.  Thanks Micki, The Ohio Nut

Still moseying

Still moseying around....will take me a bit to remember where what is and navigate.  But I do agree that there was redundancy in the previous set up. Good job with the new site guys....

 My feeling was the same,

My feeling was the same, but that we could easily consolidate some of the forums that are used a lot, but that take up more space than we'd like  by creating an area we call "Gardening by Condition." By doing this, we could create four sub-forums for seasons (and the zones could be dealt with within each of the seasons,) areas for things such as shade gardening, sunny gardening, annuals, perennials, tropicals, bulbs, etc. Rather than having separate forums for things like ferns and hosta, couldn't they be lumped into the shade area? Likewise, do we need separate forums for everything from tulips to daylilies or could they all be covered in a general bulb sub-forum? As for vines and climbers, I am not sure about that....do we need a separate forum for that, or could those be addressed in either perennial or annual or in seasonal areas?  I do think that certain things like Greenhouse gardening may be important, as is propagation, but starting plants from seeds and that sort of thing could all be lumped under propagation. Another forum we could really use might fall in Best Practices. That is packing and shipping. It seems really important to teach our members how to properly send things to their fellow members. A lot of members just pack things in wet paper towels and in plastic baggies. The truth is, that if something doesn't arrive in a day or two, or if it has to travel in really hot weather and sit in trucks, etc., it's not likely to arrive in very good condition.   Susan, the Texas Yankee and the Texas Ranger skbeal -- GardenHere Forum Manager
