Years ago when we lived in our house in Meade Ks., we had 8 large elm trees on one lot.  These trees were 60 to  70 feet tall.  I was tired of them dropping limbs all the time.  As anyone who lives or drives thru Kansas knows the wind blows at least 10 mph everyday and many days it is 20-30 mph,  I had gotten up one morning to find an elm limb rapped around my little Chevette.  There wasn't a stratch on the car but I couldn't drive it untill my husbands boss came by to pull the limb out of the way with his pickup.  This made me to start thinking about cutting down the trees.

I came into some money so I called a tree guy to come and cut down the trees.  First he toped the trees in the back.  As he took the tops off he worked down to where the cloths line was inbedded in the trees.  He cut the line and took it down so the next day he could take the trees down.  I got home from work and my granddaughter was with me.  She went out in the back yard to see what was going on.  She came running in the house to tell me "Nana, Nana somebody has stolen your cloths line."

Then a few days later when the front trees were cut down the cat was on top of the fence when I let the dog out to go to do his business.  The cat ran the dog ran and then they both came to a stop.  The cat was sitting there looking for the tree to run up and the dog didn't have any idea what to do with the cat.  I laughed so hard at them.

Thats what happens when you lose your trees.

I was thinking about a story

I was thinking about a story to tell and I came up with one.  Before my Dad retired, he and Mom bought a large lot that had some almond trees on it.  They took some of the trees down to clear the land for a house and for some other trees.  My Dad didn't really know how to prune a tree so the fruit trees he planted were in sore need of some shaping.  I volunteered to help him and he allowed me to do them.  In the spring, I told him the peach trees needed to be thinned.  He didn't really agree with me though because he told me that the tree would go through "June drop" and would self-thin.  I told him that it wouldn't drp nearly as many peaches if the tree were properly thinned earlier.  He did allow me to thin the peach trees for him but he was pretty worried.  By thinning, the trees put their energy into the remaining fruit and Dad had the best peaches he had ever had.  The following winter, he asked me when I was going to come back and work on the trees.

Neat story

Lynn I loved it.  I often wonder what some of our dogs would have done if they ever actually caught up with the barn cats.  It seemed it was always great sport to chase, but they never really wanted to catch.  And the cats would deliberately hang out to be seen and chased.  Great sport to not be caught.

ps.  I gt a buddy at work from Yoder KS.... ever hear of it?  Guess what his name is?

Let's see if he is from

Let's see if he is from Yoder then he would be from Amish decent.  Could he be a Smith?  We lived a few miles  from Yoder when my children were small.   They were the nicest folks that we knew.  We knew a family from there that we got fresh eggs from.
