Description

This recipe is a whole grain version of fruit crisp that is entirely different than the regular recipe!

Ingredients

  • 6 apples or other fruit, peeled and diced
  • 3⁄4 c flour (white wheat is good for this)
  • 3⁄4 c oats
  • 1 bn brown sugar
  • 4 T cinnamon (but i always use more)
  • 1 stick of butter (unsalted)
  • 1⁄2 c raisins (optional)

Instructions

Grease the sides and bottom of an 8" x 8" pan or a 2 quart casserole.

Wash and peel the apples. Then slice. If you use other fruit, leave the peel on!

Evenly distribute the fruit throughout the casserole or in the pan.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon and raisins (if you wish to use them.) Cut the butter up into small cubes. Then using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the mixture of dry ingredients. Pour the dry ingredients evenly over the top of the fruit. Sprinkle the top with some additional cinnamon and sugar and dot it with pats of butter.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for an hour or until the top is browned and crisp.

Notes

Great with ice cream, whipped cream or all by itself. Serve warm or at room temperature!
