Had a couple of visitors this week - pretty mourning doves.

Heard them billing & cooing before I spotted them.

Here's a close up, in case you can't see them.

I think I have at least one

I think I have at least one pair of mourning doves hanging out here. I was awakened by them this morning when I got up for the second time. There's something really calm and serene about that mating call. I apologize to them for accusing them of driving me crazy in the past.

DorothyD, I didn't realize

DorothyD, I didn't realize that mourning doves mate for life. I think they are kind of fun to watch! Around here, I see them hanging out together a lot.....I'm not sure where they like to camp out, but their presence is always known. There's something kind of comforting about their calls -- or whatever they are.

Dizzy, that view in the distance of the mountains is really gorgeous! I can't say that I'd want to return to living in zone 5, but that view is certainly some good compensation.

Most of them head south into

Most of them head south into Mexico for the winter, Deb.  But we have had several pairs stay around here all winter so I was careful to be sure I had food out for them.  I'm not sure when they start their northward migration, but either we have them back already or the ones I have seen are ones that stayed behind again.  I love to watch them and the quail when they come around the back yard.  I used to hunt doves in my younger years.  My attitude about that has drastically changed since that time.
