So Little for So Much....Nature Works

I decided on the title to my article when I reflected on what I wanted to convey to the reader of my article. Shopping last week at WalMart browsing thru the bargain bin in the gardening area. Came accross a Goldfinch feeder complete with feeder full of seeds. Including tax it was less than $5.00. Less than alot of folks spend for a fast food lunch.
Came home with my purchase peeled the tape off the minute hole where the seeds were to be extracted by the Goldfinch. It also came with an ultra small yellow colored dowel to insert in the base of the feeder to act as a perch. Showed my husband and the tiny holes not confident at all this was going to work. Couldn't imagine the beak being that small to extract the seeds from those two tiny openings and inch or so above the perch. We hung the feeder up and several days went by the seeds weren't touched. Then yesterday all of a sudden we saw two beautiful goldfinch perched on those tiny yellow dowels feasting away. The seed level went down more than an inch in one day. I researched about the Goldfinch and found some interesting information about the Goldfinch.
Am posting the hyperlink to an interesting fact sheet with regards to the Goldfinch, name of the website is "NatureWorks". When I saw that name thought to myself nature does work but we need to do our part as well. So next time you are thinking of stopping for that fast food lunch eat something from home and buy a bird feeder and seeds so you can experience how "NatureWorks". You may gave to give up two fast food lunches unless you can find a deal. I spent so little to get so much in return nature works. Dale

upside down
Did you know that finches are the only birds that can eat upside down. We have a feeder specifically for finches and the sparrows and others are a hoot to watch on it because the holes are under the perch and they try so hard and then just spin around like it was a circus. Birds are great to watch! I do miss my red cardinals in the winter in Michigan the most though!

Karry I didn't know that.
