Ok I planted my Canna's yesterday. How long will it take them to start coming up? And should they be in full sun? I planted them in big flower pots.

Cannas from seed..

I start 'growing canna from seed' by soaking the seeds for a couple of days.  By then, it's possible, and necessary for quick sprouting, to sand the seed down to the white layer.  I usually do this on the end of the seed that has a slight indention.  Next they are planted in pots, with the sanded end  up,  of soil good for seed germination.  I just had some to sprout in 10 days using this method.  They will later be transplanted into the beds.  The ones I planted last year from plants are coming back, but are not growing very fast yet.  I'm getting impatient.  Maybe soon I will have a jungle of exotic foliage and blooms.

I would be careful about

I would be careful about the epsom salts to annuals.  Never heard of anyone putting the "salts" to annuals.

Excellent point!

Dale has a great point. Now that I think about this, I'm not sure whether I would want to plant cannas in the same container I had annuals in. For one thing, cannas require a lot of water. They also like to receive a bloom boosting fertilizer and Epsom salts. Most annuals aren't as demanding of care as cannas are. So, unless you are planting annuals that require the same amount of care and the same conditions as cannas do in the same pot, I think I'd move the annuals elsewhere.

Canna

For my Cannas I also use Epsom salt and give them lots of water if you have not been getting rain then I advice to water your Cannas.

I seriously doubt it. I have

I seriously doubt it. I have sprinkled Epsom salts around my cannas and other things. I think you can pretty much say that most plants will benefit from the magnesium contained in Epsom Salts.

I use the epsom salts

I use the epsom salts around my tomatoes.  Know a lady that uses epsom salts on her rose bushes and ferns.

How long they will take to

How long they will take to start coming up depends on a few things....how warm it is out, how much sun they get and how often you water them. Typically cannas like a lot of water and a lot of sun, so yes, they should be planted in full sun. Since they spread a lot, they should also be planted in large pots. I'd say that at a minimum, depending on your night time low temperatures, it should probably take two weeks for them to st art coming up. Different cannas will vary though. I've had some come up very quickly and others take a long time. Give them a lot of water and they also love Epsom salts.

epsom salt

will epsom salt hurt my other flowers around the canna's? They are just annuals.
