Pruning cassias in pots

I am growing a cassia (wild senna) in a pot/tree form.  I'd like to know when I can prune.  It bloomed last fall/winter.  Is it okay to prune tops/sides now as not to disturb future blooms?  If so, how long can I prune before disturbing future blooms?

Thanks

Cassias

I emailed our local horticulturalist yesterday regarding this.  I rec'd an email back.

FYI - Senna Splendida blooms from Oct. thru April.  You can prune thru summer.  Stop pruning after Aug. so as not to interfere with flowers.

I was at a local garden show last weekend and saw a Cassia in bloom and was surprised.

Mine is currently not blooming.  It is in a pot though.  Not sure if that would make a difference or not.  Think I will fertilize it this weekend.

Cassia

Hi frilly,Cassias usually bloom in the fall and should be pruned in winter (after the blooms fade)to insure new growth for new blooms the comming fall.

Hmmm?

Since this plant blooms on new growth (later on in the season) it would be best to prune before new growth starts.
