Propagating Cycpress papyrus

Cypress Papyrus - Egiptian Papyrus has the most interesting propagation technique by cutting you'll ever see!

There're several varieties of cypress papyrus, dwarf, tall varieties - this particular one is "King Tut" - grows 2-3 ft tall. This plant is a vigorous grower in or out of water. Plant it up to 12 inches deep in water or in rich moist soil in full sun to medium shade (more shade tolerant than regular papyrus).

All cypress papyrus plants are very easy to propagate. Just cut the flowering stock off, trim to 1/3 of an inch  and put it in water UPSIDE DOWN...yes, upside down! The roots will grow from the center of the stem.

I have rooted cycpress papyrus using this technique before, but today I bought a new plant and I would love to share it with a good friend of mine. So, I trimmed the tallest flowering stock, and it's sitting in water as we speak. Today is April 27th...I'll update this post once I see roots growing.

This plant is perfect for small to mefium size ponds, or can be grown in a pot - just keep the soil very wet, or replace soil with rocks and fill the pot with water.
