Plumie seedlings are growing well...
The Plumeria seedlings that I started in Hydro are still growing fine - many have their second true leaves...
I shut off the hydro reservoir a couple of weeks ago and placed all plants outside to exterminate the house (all this rain had the little 'buggies' coming in for shelter...) the first night outside, everything got pounded by an unexpected rainstorm - amazingly enough, all Plumies survived with no damage...after a few days I brought the Plumie seedlings back inside next to a sunny window. A few more 'slow' seeds have even sprouted since!
The week before I sut off the Hydro reservoir, the grow light's cover had fallen off and broken the top off of one of the seedlings..I placed the top in the grow medium and sure enough- it has rooted and has its second true leaves!! I'm still waiting for that stem to grow new leaves....
All of the seedlings still have nice thick stems. The Chompoo Pann seedling has almost white leaves with green veins -I thought at first that it had gotten overwatered, but no leaves have yellowed or fallen off, so I'm guessing it's something to do with that type...or maybe we have a new variety !- I'll have to do some research (at least I have a few years to do this before it blooms). I am definitely gonna pamper this one just in case! Its really neat how the different varieties have subtle differences in their appearance. I'm anxious to see what percentage turns out 'true' to their parent/variety.
...I plan to set the reservoir back up soon with some new Plumeria seeds (waiting for some 'Nebel's Rainbow' seeds in the mail, and have gotten some other varieties from a fellow GH member). I may place one of the 1st seedlings back in Hydro just to see how well it may continue to 'grow' there....
Well folks, we can safely say our first hydro experiment has been a success! I think we should all pat ourselves on the back for a job well done!! Thanks to all of you for your support with this project!!! I look forward to our next hydro project and hope this experiment has helped those of you interested in setting up your own hydro reservoirs....
I would still like to see others 'experimenting' as well so we can compare notes and learn from each other (hint, hint!)
I will try to post photos of our babies soon...

Re: Nebel's Rainbow seeds
Hey Susan, get ready to turn greener cause...I didn't even buy the seeds - they were free for postage!!! Can you believe such luck?!? I posted a 'want' on another gardening forum and a guy in California replied with the offer. I don't know how many I'll get, but if more than a good few I'll be happy to share if you're interested.
BTW, what do you mean 'only' $180 ?!? Man, that's expensive even for a Plumie!!! Sounds like you'd pay whatever price is necessary if ya had it to spare. You must REALLY want a Confetti. (Hey, you could get a picture of one printed in 3-D, then ya won't have to dream so hard LOL) Maybe I can get ahold of some Confetti seeds - I wonder what they cost?!? (Eek !)
Oh well, sometimes dreams are all we have...just be sure to keep hoping too...LOL

Rainbow Plumerias
I just have a thing for rainbow plumies. Confetti is a very rare one, and the colors are spectacular. I also like the onew that are kind of pinwheel like where the leaves overlap, kind of rolling up at the edges. I just keep looking at pictures of plumies, but as I said, the rainbow ones and multi colored ones really speak to me!
What a streak of luck you had! I wonder whether with Plumies, that the seeds are true to the named one. I think Nebel's rainbow is also called Lei Rainbow. I'm dying to smell the flowers, too. I can't imagine what a lei full of plumie flowers would look like. Maybe we'll have to go to Hawaii just so we can experience that first hand! hehehe
Remember, I'm a transplanted Yankee. Since moving south, I've gone bonkers over lots of tropical stuff.....You'd never find this stuff growing in zone 5 in Iowa! Thank you so much for the Plumeria! I can't wait to see those flowers!

Rainbows
I've seen those pinwheel looking flowers -they are beautiful!!! I think the rainbows would have more of a floral scent...I've been told that the white & yellows are citrus smelling (as with my tree/your cutting, white flower with yellow throat and they do smell great!) and the pinks & reds are more floral scented....I have heard of the Lei Rainbow too, but figured it was a different variety...
I read somewhere that seeds generally have appx. 50% rate of being true to parent, but on Plumeria Society's site they say that a plant from seed must be labeled as a 'seedling' or 'hybrid' of the named variety even if it appears true to the parent because a scientific study would show that the DNA will always have slight differences.... ...I'm still curious about my Chompoo Pann seedling (this is a rainbow striped variety), the leaves are almost white but have green veins -I haven't seen a Plumie with foliage like this before.... let me know if you run across a photo of any Plumie with this foliage variation, OK ? I'd love to find out that its a new variety !! Of course I would know for sure until it bloomed I guess. I did see on a forum recently (on Gardenweb I think) where a person recieved their certificate for a new Plumie variety !!! That would be awesome-it sure would make the waiting for blooms more worthwhile...
Who knows, I may even try to join the Plumeria Society eventually. I'll have to see what their fees are...I think they're based in Texas..... ha, ha if they're too expensive maybe we could both join together on one of those family discount memberships, afterall we are Plumie-in-laws!!!! LOL.
I really don't care what colors/types my seedlings turn out to be -my goal is to have a Plumie Jungle - I'm off to a good start with the quantity, now if I can wait a couple more years for them to mature!! I saw a post where someone's seed -grown Plumie bloomed after only 2 1/2 years... that's not such a bad wait...just watching them grow is exciting ...as long as their growth rates don't slow down, and if it does, I'll probably still be sprouting seeds as often as I can find them -and thats always exciting !!!! At least I know the 'colors' of all of my cuttings (whites, pinks, reds) I do have three cuttings I got on Ebay that are named : 'Arzalia' (fuschia red), 'Sassy' (pink) and 'Texas Sunshine' ( bright yellow)- got these from a guy in Galveston.
When I go on vacation to the Gulf, I plan to shop around for some more Named varieties...
Don't forget, you can post on Freecycle for Plumies..that's how I got one of my pinks. I posted in my area for Plumie cuttings and got one reply from a lady just a few miles away.. she's originally from Austrailia where they call them Frangipani. She had cut a branch off her tree in Houston before moving here and gave me cuttings from it.
