Please Post Trades/Wants in Trade Area

Printer-friendly versionIn honoring GardenOne's request, and our decision to limit trading to the Trade List Area, we ask that you please use that area for posting ALL trades, seed and plant requests, etc., instead of in the forums. Forums are designated for specific information, tips, questions and discussions about a topic. See 'Forums', in the upper menu bar for a list and description of forum content. It really makes sense to keep trade activity in one area. It may not be the perfect system at the moment, but it's much more organized for the site, safer for setting up trades, and beneficial for members looking for a particular item for trade. Trade lists are open for 'request's only' and can be edited or updated by you at any time. If you have an old list in the Trade Area that you cannot edit, please flag it and post a new one. (Sorry, this is due to a software change that was necessary) Also, the PM system is still not available (on this date anyway). You may contact members through their 'Contact' link on their account page (click on their name or find them using the site 'search') Your message to their contact link will go directly to their email. Thanks so much for helping us keep the site organized.

Copy & Paste

I keep my trade list at a web site I made at Free Webs. Is it ok to copy and paste it from there? This is the way I have mine done now, but will change it if needed.

No it is not o.k to paste

No it is not o.k to paste from there, but you can put a link to your website there in a trade list in the trade list area if you want. If you wish to put it here, please type it in manually. At the moment, we have no formatting, so the copy and paste thing would create a real disaster. We're trying to prevent a bunch of HTML coding that may be necessary elsewhere but that's unnecessary here from getting in here. What it will do is completely distort the appearance of things on this site.

Alright, I will change that

Alright, I will change that right away. I knew we shouldn't post from notepad and so on, but thought that was ok. Sorry for the goof!

Actually......

Notepad is o.k. Notepad saves documents in RTF format or Rich Text Format....This is the same as plain text. It means that there is no HTML coding in it. You can also use Word Pad as long as the document is saved as a TXT document. The problem arises with Microsoft Word and other Word Processing programs that save the document as a DOC document. That format is the one that's laden with HTML coding that's not compatible with this software.....We aren't using a prefabricated forum software that comes with templates. I guess you could say that what we have is one of a kind! At the moment, however, it would appear that our formatting boxes are gone, so I am not sure how successful any copy and paste from a TXT or RTF format would be. When we have the formatting box, you can put things on a clip board and paste them in that way. You may want to wait until Al gets a chance to straighten out this glitch!

Further

Further clarification.......... It is o.k. for Round Robins to be posted in that forum...There would be no purpose in having that forum if it wasn't acceptable to post things there. Please...keep trade lists in the trade list area and if you don't want to manually type a trade list that you have posted elsewhere into GH, please just post a link to it. If you wish, you may even put it in your signature so people can access it via any post you make.

Thank you, Connie.

Anyone can update, edit or change their trade list at anytime. I sure hope that feature is working. So, if someone has some seeds, starts, cuttings, bulbs or whatever that they want to unload in the immediate future, you could have a trade list with nothing but that on it. Once you took care of that, you could put your regular trade list back up.

I'd also like to make another request. That is that people not use Word or any other Word Processing or other program and copy and paste their trade lists into a text block here. This system is very sensitive regarding what it will read in HTML Coding. Microsoft software is particularly problematic because it always has a lot of hidden coding in it. If you use one of these programs and paste your trade list onto the site that way, you're causing a lot of grief for Al (since he's the only one who can get to all that code,) and cluttering up that area. Please type your trade lists into the text block manually.

If you would like the system to make any paragraph divisions that you want to have for you, make sure you have yours set to WYSIWYG Editor. This setting will automatically make any paragraph and line breaks you indicate when you type. If you have it set to the other setting, the only way to break paragraphs is by typing in the HTML coding. If you have your trade list posted on a free site, you are welcome to post a link to that site in the trade list area so that people can access it from there.

Updating lists

You may also want to just add your current 'must go/seasonal' items or 'must have now!' items at the top of your trade list. It's very helpful for other traders (and yourself) if you keep your trade list updated as best you can. (smile) Editing on current lists seems to be working. ( big smile)

Trade lists

Click on the words 'Trade Lists' to get to the trade lists. I know... this confused me royally too! But, everything listed in the gray box (Featured Areas) is a link to each area.

That Would Be

so easy to do if you could get to the trade area in the first place. Seems everything is a Mount Everest to get to.

You should see it for

You should see it for everyone but yourself. If you can't, there is a link on each member's profile and there is a text block right there to send them an e-mail.

Go to their profile. Type

Go to their profile. Type their user name in the search box at the top. What will come back is content, but there's a tab at the top of the page next to content that says "Users." Click on that and the user name will come up. When you click on the user name, you'll go to their profile. Everyone has a contact link on their profile.
