This is a common mushroom found at the base of large Oak trees or stumps. Other common names for this mushroom - Hen of the Woods, Maitake, Sheepshead, Ramshead. They can get very large, this one is 12" across.Mushroom - Grifola frondosa

Good pic

I have these mushrooms on my oak stumps and all over the back acre - ones I have are more stair stepped instead of clustered and are quite beautiful - also hard as a rock. Thanks for sharing

I LOVE mushrooms!

These are beautiful! Way to go! sharon tnchatter

YIKES!

That is DISGUSTING, Connie! You know how I feel about mushrooms! I only like them when they are with gnomes and they aren't real! hehehe Holy cow! How did you get so many hideous mushrooms!?

Hey

...told ya, I live in a swamp, well, almost. If we get just a little extra moisture, whahoo... happy mushrooms! Kinda thought this one would gross you out. Look, there's even oooooze running out... hahaha! They are so cool! Last year we had one over 2 feet wide in the woods...might take a trek out there tomorrow.
