Milkweed and Monarchs

Does anyone ever watch a monarch grow from a caterpillar to an adult butterfly?  It is most amazing.  I have a really fat larva.  It won't be long until it makes its cocoon.  My 2nd graders are very impressed.

Milkweeds & Monarchs

Sharon, being a retired Science teacher I'm giving you lots of KUDOS for sharing this experience with your class! There's nothing like "watching" something take place right before your eyes. I taught on the Jr. High level and we did many experiments and made collections of insects when we were studying biology. The more hands on, the better. You are a great teacher!! maw

I still collect the caterpillars with my nephew but we have not see any so far this yr. I've done this since I was a kid. A few yrs back I brought some into work as some of the people had never seen it before and they were in their 40's and was amazed at how the caterpillars spin.
