Malabar SpinachMalabar Spinach

A climbing spinach that loves the heat. It's not related to true spinach, but looks and tastes very similar. The vines are bright red and it gets small pink and white flowers which turn into berries. The berries contain a dark purple juice that can be used as a natural edible colorant...or dried for seed for next years planting. They can grow a foot a day in hot climates. Annual

Malabar Spinach I

Malabar SpinachMalabar Spinach

I grow it on old christmas trees that I have removed the branches from and erected in my vegetable garden. I like it in mixed green salads, soups, and believe it or not, on peanut butter sandwiches. lol I don't care much for raw spinach, but I do munch on it when I can't get myself to leave the garden to eat something. Smile

Here's some great info... Malabar Spinach

HOLY SMOKES!

Oh man, Connie! Look at what you unleashed! Those of us who live in the south where it gets so darn hot that you can't grow any lettuce or green stuff during the dog days of summer can plant climbing spinach! Have you cooked it or eaten it raw? I love spinach -- salads, and my mom makes the most amazing creamed spinach. This is fabulous......Now I can have spinach and Chinese Red Noodle Beans during the DOG DAYS of SUMMER! Woo Hoo!

Where can you get seeds for this???????????????? I've gotta have some!
