I really love this perennial lobelia.  It is a vast improvement of the species. Since this is it's first summer in the garden I do not know how well it will do over the winter months.

Blooms late summer onwards 'til hard frost.

Plant in sun to part shade. I have this one where it gets morning sun and afternoon shade.

Needs constant supply of moisture so frequent waterings are essential, as is a layer of mulch.

Grows 20 to 24" high.

Hardy to zone 6

Thanks guys!  As if my ego

Thanks guys!  As if my ego needs any more fluffing!

Lobelia ar fairly easy perennials as long as you divide the clumps every other year.  They tend to crowd themselves out!!

They do need moist soil conditions, so if you have a low area that is a bit boggy then you shouldn't have any problems.  Or, mulch to conserve soil moisture.  You can even pot them up and use them on the edge of a pond!

Most of the cultivars I have in the garden have been available for a few decades and they are developing new hybrids!

Have to try it!

Boy Ron, I would just love to take a walk through your garden. You have such lovely plants with this being no exception. I haven't tried any lobelia yet, but I think I will next spring!

Love it!!

Ron, I didn't know that there was a perennial lobelia. It's very different than the blue colored annual one with tiny flowers that my mom seems to grow almost yearly. I just LOVE that color......You have so many fabulous plants and flowers. I agree....it would be such fun to take a stroll through your garden, but your photos are downright magnificent!
