IM HAVING AN AFFAIR.

It is dark and dreary here as the spring storm passes us by. We were in desperate need of rain on the southern side of Atlanta, Georgia. It seems as though every mention of a drop bellowing down to the earth from the heavens above makes me squirm out into the garden to conjure up a motion some would label a jig, and others an Indian Rain dance. Most likely if you saw the spell of a dance move that I make at the site of large thunder clouds you might think I was in need to head towards the powder room. Sometimes I think rain is a nice way of being forced indoors for a break. There are a few of us that work ourselves into frenzy when spring hits. You can tell us by our southern-draw. (no offense to you Yankees) In the last couple of weeks I have planted a couple hundred seeds, and tried to directly sew them into the ground hoping that germination would work out well. I have been lucky with a few things thus far. If you have been eager enough to see the proof just track me and look into my images. I am sure you will see a few pretty things there that I have added. Sometimes I feel like I hold my breath all winter long waiting for spring to arrive, it feels like I have no air. Finally spring arrives and I exhale. Air!
Spring, is here. I added a weeping Yupon Holly to the yard, and then two more Lorapettalums, as well as two more deciduous magnolias- Jane. All of the fruit trees have been sprayed and are with baby fruit, and against my best wishes. I have begged and pleaded with my husband for him to please cut the blooms one last year and he just will not have anything to do with it. My post lady after watching me bring in countless plants to her window finally called one Saturday and gave me hundreds of monkey grass plants, as well as many other odds and ends. I have to say spring so far has been wonderful. I added 3 more bird feeders to the yard, and the birds have never been so many. Our purple Martin house buzzes with birds in early morning hours and at dusk. It is a love affair I have to admit. Spring sweeps me away each year, first temptation is sprouts of tulips and watching them bloom contrasting against the hundreds of violas and phlox. Spring steals kisses when finally everything turns that lime green color that just makes us feel as though each of us have been reborn with each minute longer of daylight that the season brings. Finally she conjures the full affair when you can smell fresh cut grass, it is the smell I remember so well of my childhood. The smell of spring, the smell of neighbors grilling, the sweet sunsets that appear after a horrible storm, the sound of baby birds.FINALLY PUTING THE CONVERTIBLE TOP DOWN ON THE CAR! I’m in love with spring, it kills me to stay inside long enough to post these things.
