Males are generally more
Males are generally more colorful (meaning the green is greener and less brown) AND they are distinguished by the red on their gorge (the neck.) Females have more white on their chest area, their backs look more like a brownish green and there is no characteristic red on the throat. I've been seeing a lot of babies. Earlier when I was outside doing something, I got to see a male Ruby Throat who was sipping from one of my feeders pretty close to where I was standing. I went back inside as soon as he saw me because he flew off....Since then, I keep peeking outside and noticing that they are continuing to feed from the feeder, but if I get too close to the window, they will fly off. They act like they are fully aware that I'm watching them, so I am trying my hardest NOT to make them so self conscious. They are DEFINITELY here now.....lots of them!

Me too!!
I've seen them, too! I think
I've seen them, too! I think that so far, mostly the males have made land fall. A few females may come straggling in! You'll be able to recognize them because they aren't as colorful, and because they don't have that red gorge on the throat area. Once the females arrive, they'll start building nests so they can lay their eggs. Then you won't have many sitings for a good 24 - 30 days! They'll be back though. Keep those feeders out and full, and make sure they have lots of yummy plants and bugs to eat!

The male hummer is more
The male hummer is more colorful, ain't that the way with most animals. I know our male India Blue Peacock is more colorful than the peahen. Dale
