Hummingbird at Feeder

This female Ruby-throated Hummingbird is lovely in her own way.  Although, she's 'drab' compared to the male because of her duller green coat.  She is larger than the male, but is timid so she's easily intimidated at the feeder.  A lot of males are very aggressive, and will fight any other male or female away from his territorial feeder.  Even his own mate!  When it's time to fatten up for the winter flight, she becomes very territorial at the feeders, also.  The Ruby Throated Hummer is migratory, and usually winters in Mexico, or as far away as South America and the West Indies. I am obsessed with them!

I love them too! I have 5 feeders up, and they fight like crazy, and the males aren't the only ones who engage in territorial warfare. The females are just as bad....I love having them around. They are so much fun to watch.....they are so entertaining. We are supposed to have 14 varieties here, but I know that I haven't seen that many.............I will sure miss them when they leave!

Love them too!

My son hung our feeder right outside our patio, so we see their territorial warfare too! They're something to watch! tnchatter
