How green are you outside of the garden?

As gardeners we understand the need to conserve resources.

I am not a believer in the global warming thing but that is a whole other subject.

I thought we could share the stuff we do to conserve resources and money around our homes and gardens

My first entry is about papertowels.

I try not to use them.  Instead I go to a Walmart type store and buy "bar rags" they are smaller than hand towels or kitchen towels but much heavier and usually white.

A dozen of them cost about the same as a multiroll pack of paper towels but will last for years.

I bought several packs and have about twenty. I put a large hook in the cellar way and when I am done with one for the day, I hang it on there to dry.  I use them for everything except cleaning the oven and the windows.  Paper towels do a better job on those two things.

When I get a bunch of the towels dirty I soak them overnight in a light bleach solution and then, if it is warm outside, I hang them to dry on the line. ( Did you know it costs a dollar a load to dry clothes in the dryer)

Anyway I do not use paper napkins either for all the same reasons above but a lot of times we use the clean bar rags for that too when it is not company LOL

cloth napkins are cheaper in the long run too. If you buy enlugh for a week fro your family and throw them in with the regular towels you do nt even have to do a separate load for them.

Okay who else is cheap like me but also conserves?????????
