How is everyone doing?

How is everyone doing?  Are we losing, maintaining or heaven forbid gaining.  I went through a period of gaining but I'm back to losing and maintaining.  I'm not sure what to do next.  I don't think I can eat much healthier and I'm already walking about 6 days a week.  My walks are from 1 1/2 miles to 3 miles.  I like to put on my Ipod and take  the dog and just walk.  I'm so lucky that you can walk here in Austin.

Enough about me.  Lets hear from all of you.  Hints and tips are always welcome.

This thread hasn't been used

This thread hasn't been used for awhile.  But I have weighed in at 210 for the last two days.  I had set a goal of 60 pounds to lose and at 210, I have lost 40 pounds.  It has been harder to lose over the past weeks, but the trend is still downward.

I get a little discouraged

I get a little discouraged when things don't happen as fast as they should.  I started working on losing some pounds beginning the end of December.  I don't remember exactly what I weighed back then, but it was close to 250 pounds.  For the past couple of weeks I have been hitting 222 or a pound or two heavier, but I couldn't seem to break that mark.  This morning I was pleasantly surprised to tip the scale at 220.  So I have reached the halfway mark on my goal of 60 pounds.  Gotta stick with it though.

Lyn, that sounds like a

Lyn, that sounds like a reasonable rate of weight loss.  I would like to lose faster too, but I can't really complain.  I was a bit surprised yesterday though when I took a reading.  Blood sugar was 146 a couple of hours after fish and chips at Shari's Restaurant.  I obviously ate too many of the potatoes (with catsup).  I was back on track (122) after dinner though.  I was dissappointed with the fish and chips anyway.  It looked like a naice couple of pieces of fish, but it was mostly batter.  The fish inside the batter was about 1/8" thick.  That's pretty puny.  I have been doing good on the turntable though and I got on that as soon as I got home in the afternoon for my 45 minute session.  I weighed in this morning at 228.

Well.......

I quit smoking. Losing weight & stop smoking is multi-tasking (lol). One thing at a time please.

Honestly at this point if I do NOT gain during this no smoking process I am HAPPY! Smile

I am doing more exercise

I am now taking Aqua Therapy twice a week and will adding land therapy once a week. I am eating less but not as healthy as I should. I have lost weight because my clothes are not as tight. I only weigh myself once a month. I had lost 6 pounds last month. I really would like to lose 25 pounds by July before I go on vacation. Keep up the good work everyone. Sound to me like you are all

Sound to me like you are all doing great, keep up that good work. I know how you feel, I started about 6 yrs, ago at a size 16 and now am a 6-8 depends on the brand of clothes, and have to work hard every day to maintain the weight, I started out with 5 min on an exercise bike and now can run 4 miles a day, and believe me there are still days that I don't or won't go. If you get bored mix it up a bit, try walking fast 100 steps and then slow down, I also use exercise videos by Leslie Sanson, she gets you going and has 1,2,3,4 mile walking videos, I started with the 1 of course and worked my way up the 4 has jogging in it, and you walk right in the living room, might even get other family members to join in. Anyways Keep it up you are finding out the good benefits of Good health already.

It seems like every time I

It seems like every time I get on that bloomin' treadmill I contemplate maybe doing only a half-hour.  Then when the half-hour is up maybe I'l ddo 5 more minutes and so on.  Pretty soon I have the 45 minutes all done.  I did a full hour one day and my knees were too sore the next day for me to consider doing any time on the treadmill, so I don't even consider doing more than the 45 minutes.

Wow everryone is doing so

Wow everryone is doing so well.  I'm going to get left behind here if I'm not careful.  I'm not really losing and not really gaining.  I have a 10 pound bounce going on.  I've gone up and then down so many times I'm begining to feel like a yoyo.  I am careful about what I eat most of the time.  It isn't like I eat sugar.  It's more like I snack too much and then I quit snacking and then I start having a dawn effect again.  Then I do the bed time snack and then I'm up a pound or two because I ate too many snacks.  So I back off again.  It doesn't help that insulin and lyrica both have a tendency to make you gain weight.

Randy they did that to my hubby.  They gave him metformin and never explained how to eat right.  I made him take a diabetic classs where they showed the serving size and went through what you should eat.  One night I showed him his bowl of ice cream was 3 times the serving size and how much he was really eating.  It made a big point to him.

I can do without desserts,

I can do without desserts, but I haven't stopped them entirely.  I had the tip off a piece of apple pie several weeks back and some ice cream that had no sugar added a couple of times.  But I don't normally have desserts anyway so it doesn't bother me any not to have them around.

Sandi, you are right on with that attitude about multi-tasking.  If you can come out of this without actually gaining, that is a big plus.

I tipped the scale at 227 this morning.  The weeks show me an interesting cycle.  Friday morning is probably my best morning.  That will sho the 'low' of the week.  Over the weekend, I will put back on a pound or two and by the next Friday, I have been having a net loss of a pound and maybe two.  I am content with that as long as it keeps happening that way.  At the end of a year, I could actually reach my goal of a 60 pound net loss.  But so far, that is a dream.  LOL

randy everyone should have

randy everyone should have a dessert once and a while.  I sometimes eat 2  or 3 cookies or have a bite of hubbys dessert.   As my doctor says if you do without is when you have a tendency to have a craving and overeat.  She says never turn down birthday cake or ice cream but keep them on the small size.

I find that when I take the lyrica I get hungry in a few minutes.  I perfer to take it with a meal but I take it 3 times a day and that middle dose comes between meals.  I sometimes leave it until I eat supper.

I am still dropping ounces,

I am still dropping ounces, Lyn.  It isn't very fast, but I can handle that.  What I am pleased about though is that my blood sugar numbers are right in where they should be or even a bit less.  I haven't fallen down into the area (70) where I have to do something about them though.  I'm thinking that if they stay about where they are though, I can back off the medication (metformin) some.  That would please me.  What would please me even more would be to be able to get off the medication altogether.  I have been in contact with my brother-in-law though and I am concerned.  My doctor put me in touch with a dietician right away to help me learn about diabetes and how to cope with it in a sensible manner.  His doctor just put him on metformin and told him to lose weight.  I wrote a rather lengthy e-mail to him last evening about what I have learned and suggested that he ask his doctor about any educational program through their local hospital.  His wife told us that he is skipping breakfast.  That isn't what he should do as a diabetic.  He is already low on blood sugar in the morning and that will compound his difficulty.  Skipping breakfast is not good for anyone and it's even worse for a diabetic.
