Help with Iris'....

Help with my iris' please. What am I doing wrong? Why won't they bloom? I have lifted them, etc. but still no blooms. I look at the way my mother and grandmothers are planted and you can't see the rhizomes on theirs but theirs seem to bloom faithfully. Do I need to completely cover the rhizome completely?

I have such beautiful colors that I have received from my mother and from other people. But I never get to enjoy the blooms only the fans sticking out of the ground.

Yippie!!!!!

Yippie!!! I went outside this morning and I saw a bloom stalk coming out on one of the iris'....I can't wait to see the bloom. Maybe I haven't had some of them planted long enough. In my ditch in front of my house I have tons of iris' growing there. Because my grandmother who lives across the road from me throws them there when she thins her beds out. I saw one that was blooming that was a yellowish orange color. I think that I will dig it up and plant it with the ones that I already have.  I will post a pic when it does bloom.....

Melissa looks like you have

Melissa looks like you have been given some sound advise about your iris.  You probably are trying to hard.  Iris is one of the easiest flowers to plant it and forget it..

I planted

several Irises yesterday I received from 1violetheart and some from last year I got in trade. The ones from last year were in a pot and had roots galore.  I have more from 1violetheart in seveal containers.  I will plant them after the summer. Mine still haven't bloomed.  I will be stepping up the fertilizer and see if I can uncover the rhizomes without damaging them.

Iris

I have several Iris blooming that I planted last year. Most of them I recieved in trades and I'm so happy to see them blooming now. The rhizomes are covered but just slightly and with our drought, I try and water them at least every two days. I have them planted in an area where they get morning sun, afternoon shade and I add fertilize to all my flower beds in Febuary before plants begin to grow. I'm no expert but this is what works for me.

Not sure....

My mom's and grandmother's aren't in an area where they get a lot of water. I am going to try putting some epsom salt on them and see if that helps. I planted some of them last spring, some last fall and then some this year. I am suppose to have pink, orange, purple/gold, and some other colors. I even have some of the miniature ones but all I have are really pretty, healthy looking fans with no buds....I guess I will wait to see if they do anything after the epsom salt and hope that I have buds next year....

how long ago..

Melissa, how long ago did you plant or move them ?? If you moved them to make them higher they wont bloom until next season...the rhizomes need to be showing a bit, or so I have been told...I am keeping my fingers crossed to see blooms this year...

Iris

You might need to fertilize the irises. I know I use Epsom salt on mine to help put back what rain and watering takes out of the soil.

Iris Blooms

Mine haven't bloomed either Melissa.  I planted quite a few of them last year so I am hopping for blooms this year.  I removed the mulch and soil away from them but my rhizomes are not exposed. I have new ones going in and  I will make sure these are.  I did fertilize with epsom salt now am going to use Bloom Buster.  I wish you luck.
