This is a Granny Smith Apple tree that I started from seed. As I was cutting a granny smith apple I realized that one of the seed had already germinated and was sprouting. So I stuck it in some dirt to see if it would continue to grow. Sure enough It grew and is still growing. It is about 6" tall right now. I have it in a flower pot right now and will probably keep it in the house for a few years.Granny Smith Apple Tree: This is a Granny Smith Apple Tree started from seed 2 months ago.Granny Smith Apple Tree: Granny Smith Apple Tree: Another look at the Granny Smith Apple Tree started from seed.Granny Smith Apple Tree: Another look at the Granny Smith Apple Tree started from seed. This is a Granny Smith Apple Tree started from seed 2 months ago.

May not be true to form

Hello Teresa.  Nice looking seedling.  just wanted to let you know most named apple varieties like 'Granny Smith' are vegetatively reproduced to get the fruit attributes to carry through.  Usually small twigs are grafted onto hardy rootstocks (apple trees that have had their tops remioved for this grafting.)  the twigs are, of course identical to the parent they were removed from and develop into the top portion of a new tree.

The seeds of named varieties often don't breed true, and may produce apples that are completely different from the parent.

But go ahead and try it.  In caouple of years it should bear and it will be interesting to see what you get.  There is always a chance you will get a great new apple that will knock your sock (sic) off.  I would love to be buying the the 'Bowersock' apple at my garden center in a few years.

The experimenting is what helps make gardening fun!
