Well I am busy picking pickles and my yellow wax beans started re-blossoming.  I have gotten more green and wax beans this year than I ever have.  Frozen all my beans on cookie sheets and then put them in ice cream pails with lids in the freezer.  I can just scoop out what I need. With the cooler weather my broccoli plants are sending out more broccoli heads.  It is amazing how I can end up with almost a full head of broccoli, from flowerettes that pop up here and there.  I froze some carrots over the weekend.  I could not believe how far they were already, and many of them had split.  I am pleased with them as they are huge.  I am drying green beans and yellow wax beans and I have all my pea seed saved for next year already.  I am waiting for the lettuce to flower out, and also the carrots to collect my seed.  I have tons of Dill.  My Dill in areas were almost 5 ft tall. and the heads were 12 inches in diameter.  Celery I cut off about 3 weeks ago and froze it.  And it is regrowing as well.  We tried the cylinder shaped beets this year.  they were great to work with, but I did not get as much beets from them.  I think I might go back to the Detroit dark beets, but I am waiting for the beet plant to finish flowering, so I can collect the seed.  We have more carrots, pickles, beans, tomatoes, broccoli, kohlrabi, celery, beans, butternut squash, pumpkins, and tiny pumpkins yet to harvest.

Hope you are all having a great harvest as well.

Hugs  Mary

Hi Sandi, no I am not ready

Hi Sandi, no I am not ready for winter, or the first frost. I still have broccoli, sending out shoots of flowerettes and even more heads after I cut the first ones off. This is the most broccoli I have ever gotten. Sure glad I did not pull the plants. Beans are still sending out new blossoms. I am sick of picking those already. But have been busy saving seed. Thank you for letting me know about the recipe Dale posted. I will have to check it out My pickles got a late start, and I still haven't gotten enough to can. But, hopefully that will change this next week. Hugs Mary

Congratulations on a great harvest!!

Mary Lynn, I'm thrilled to see how much you were able to harvest from your garden this year. You'll be warm and cozy...and enjoying the fruits of your labor come winter!  What a blessing!
