Is anyone as frustrated as I am? I love you guys. I want to share our GH home with other plant people but with all of our problems lately I don't feel I can. I know we'll come through this but lately I find I'm popping in to find out who to pray for and what the current status is on the site.
I know I'm venting but thanks for letting me. I just want everyone to enjoy themselves here!
Vent
One of the good things about GH is that we CAN vent and get our frustrations out and no one is going to be banned for putting in their 2 cents worth. If that were the case..I'd have been booted long ago!!! GH is not perfect yet but it's a ..oh shucks..what's that word!!!! My dementia is kicking in... well, it's a good thing and it's still in the makin!! It's slowly coming together and I remember what it was like to come to GH and everything worked and it was wonderful and it will be that way again very soon I think.
Latebloomer..I understood what you meant when you said you stopped in to see who to pray for and what the GH status was. You meant nothing against prayer for friends. Just that it seemed that was the only forums active at the moment. I've made a comment similiar to that about games. I meant no harm... just frustrated at the time. And believe me..I vented....just ask Susan. Bless her heart, she takes everything so personally!! I love that about her..she's so dedicated to Gh and such a dear friend to me.
We're very close to being back to normal now. I think pm's are still missing but if we're close enough to our gh friends ..we have their email addy. I like that we got a lot of comments to this thread..it shows that we're all concerned and love our GH forums.
Thanks and hugs to all of our leaders and AL for keeping us going..Now it's up to us members to put in the info, pics, articles, blogs, friendship, and all else it takes to make a great gardening site.
Gloria, you made me smile! I
Gloria, you made me smile! I won't ban anyone for venting....unless that venting is unleashed towards another member in a hurtful manner.
I agree with you about this place. I've made some of the best and closest friends I could ever hope to have....and you're among them...Besides, I count on you to teach me the do's and don'ts of being a southern belle.
I wanted to let you know that Al and I are working on the PM's together. There are kinks in this feature at the moment, and that's why he hasn't brought it back yet....It would just frustrate people.
Little by little, I keep discovering a host of features that make this place the special "HOME" that it really is............Gosh, how am I going to tolerate being away from y'all for a couple of weeks? Away from computer, too....Going to visit my mom at the end of September, and then we're going to Florida to see my cousin go up in space.
We ARE coming together....and for that I'm glad. I'm glad that everyone who voiced their frustrations here feels comfortable enough to be able to speak their minds.
All of you are fabulous people with fabulous ideas, fabulous gardens and I'm honored to count each and every one of you as my friends.

A little venting of my own....
GH has been a blessing to me. During the past months I have endured some very hard times, but YOU GUYS were there for me. When my family needed prayers, I knew where to go for that and all your wonderful support. I have found new friendships. I don't really know how to express my gratitude towards everyone for all the support and prayers. But what I do know is that, as was said before, the people are the site. If it was not for all the wonderful people here, it would just be anouther site, not home. I do find it frustrating also. Sorta afraid to go to the effort (I have dail up also!) of reposting things, but I love this place and want to be part of it and if I have to repost a pic 100 times I will! We make this the AWSOME place it is, so lets not fret about a lost post and just keep making it a better place!
And now that I have done some of my own venting....Goodnight everyone!!
What?
What can a God fearing fella say? With all these womens around saying good things I guess he best keep his trap shut.
Well said everyone... being open and communacative when we do have troubles goes a long way towards building trust in one another and the GH site.
Velvet, I'm not sure what your referring to regarding seeking prayer, but i sure hope you always feel welcome to seek solace and offer prayer support in the "corner" as I call it. I don't post there much, but I sure lurk there a bit everyday.
"Business...Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance and benevolence were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!"
Hi treeman
Miss Velvet, one of the
We can do it
I've been one of the biggest venters here..hehe. But I will say that GH and it's members is such a big part of my daily routine.. that when it's not exactly right I get frustrated. BUT... us members are what makes GH and it's up to us to make it better.
I know it's irritating to post a pic, recipe, blog or article and have it disappear never to be seen again. But surely all that is over and won't happen again. But we have learned that unforunatly this can happen on any site. It's good to make copies and save them somewhere on your computer just in case.
My biggest problem is a dial up connection and the time it takes to show a pic or the fact that I get booted off ..which is all in my service provider. Then there's the site not running just right to add to that and I go off the deep end. I've got to have more patience..I've seen other sites go to nothing and jump back up and go again and we can do it too. ..just got to put the ambition into it.
I hope we can count on each and every member to put forth a little more effort and lets get some gardening info posted and get our selves back to digging in the dirt at GH. I'm going to give it my best shot.
Gloria GH and it's members
Gloria GH and it's members are a vital part of my life and you included in that for your friendship that I treasure. We are a work in progress and we have to continue looking forward. We can't change the past. Dale

Gloria, you ROCK, too!
I'm glad you're feeling better....I know that Al has worked his TAIL off to make things work, and he's fixing them as fast as is humanly possible. As for dial up, there's nothing to say about it other than that it SUCKS. Now that we've got this dedicated server, that should help things a lot for you. It should also speed up the load time of everything.
This site has so much potential. You're RIGHT ON in saying that the site is the people. One of the things that makes GH stand out from other sites and that makes it so much more unique and in my mind, better, is that WE contribute all of the material ourselves. We aren't using material that has appeared elsewhere. Everything we post -- article, plant ID, blog entry, photo, recipe, etc., is something that was contributed by a member of GH and that is hopefully EXCLUSIVE to GH.
We are a tight group. We care about each other deeply. I know that most of us have forged some of the most meaningful friendships of our lives. It's the strength of those friendships and the love we all have for this site that will provide us with the motivation and drive to bring it back in the BEST SHAPE ever!

Family
Velvet,
I think you misunderstood me, I visit daily to find out who needs prayers because I consider everyone here family and want to pray for them. I wasn't insinuating that that was the only thing the site is good for. And I myself, have asked for and received the loving prayers of GH members and appreciate very much that no one gets kicked off for asking for them.
I don't know if it was the heat or what, but I found myself venting because I really want to spread the joy and comradery of this place and I was unsure if I should due to the recent crash. I did despite our difficulties because anything worthwhile is a work in progress . It is not lost on me how hard Susan and Al work. Everyone here makes this place and I grieve when we lose members.
If I offended you in any way my friend, please forgive me,it was not what I intended to do.
Cyndy, I understand your
Cyndy, I understand your frustration, and I have felt some of that myself. I have always accepted that I'd just have to hang in there and wait it out. This site was a great place with great people. That hasn't changed one bit as far as I am concerned. We have so many great members who contribute so much to this site, and they are the soul of this site and what makes it what it is.
We can't dwell on the past, and we should be grateful and thankful that Al was able to bring this back -- in what is clearly a better and much more user friendly form. As for the rest, it will take time to strengthen the site and to rebuild the confidence of members. Those of us who are leaders on this site need to be mindful that what they say and do on this site reflects directly on all of you, on me, on Al and on the site...It also sets an example for the members. We cannot expect members to be willing to give of themselves and contribute if the leaders of the site are not willing to do so too. I realize that this thread was all about venting, but there's venting and then there's going forward. We cannot dwell on any of what's happened, and we can't mourn lost content because doing so will ensure that we never replace it or rebuild it. This site belongs to all of us. It is what we make it and it will be what we want it to be. Think about what you'd like this site to be and where you'd like to see it go. Then use that as a source of motivation. If we all work together, this site will be back in even better form. It may not be what it used to be, but it CAN and WILL be better -- if we want it to be better. Ask yourself what you want for the site. Then ask yourself what you're willing to give to the site. What this site is and what it becomes lies in the answer that each of us gives to those two questions.

Well,
I bit the bullet and invited someone to check us out. I explained that we were in transition after a bad crash on the site.
Thanks for your comments everyone. I'm good at weathering storms but not so good when I feel alone. Thanks for reminding me to share the commitment to GH.
Latebloomer glad you stopped
Latebloomer glad you stopped by. GH has come a long way but have a long way to go. It's good to be able to chat with the folks here at GH and post comments of interest. GH is not like it was and we may never get back to where we once were. I am just looking forward to keep on keeping on here at GH. Dale

I have to admit that I've
I have to admit that I've been frustrated a lot in the past....I felt like there was nothing I could do to encourage people when things just seemed to keep going wrong. But I refused to allow myself to vent at all...because somehow it seemed highly inappropriate coming from me.
I feel very strongly though, that things ARE looking up, and that the site is VASTLY improved. The more we use it, the more evident that will become.
As for people posting quality the likes of which we used to have, Maw, as much as I agree with you here, I think there's a bit of skepticism on the part of our members -- perhaps it's a lingering sense of distrust. I don't honestly think that people will start posting again like they used to until we've earned their confidence and trust again. As long as things continue to work, and as long as Al continues to bring back the features that we all took for granted and considered important, people will feel more and more like the old and familiar GH is back. That will take a bit of time.
Unless you try things yourself, Cyndy, and see that they ARE working and feel comfortable with them again, you aren't going to believe that we're really home. I hope you will feel like giving things a try again and jumping in....Once you do, this new bright and shiney place will seem just like that old and familiar one -- only a heck of a lot nicer looking.

We've weathered a lot of
We've weathered a lot of troubles here. But as I see it, things are always looking up. We've had some pretty major problems and some whopping streaks of bad luck. Al is working as hard and as fast as he can to fix things back up for us. We can post photos again -- even in posts, blogs, etc. We've even got the chat area back....The biggest problem we have right now with things not functioning properly is PM's, and I can assure you that Al and I are working on it and testing it.
From everything I have seen and tried since we switched back to this software interface from the Drupal one, we're looking better than ever. The site is visually appealing and we can do almost everything we always used to be able to do. I don't know what to tell you other than to hang in there. This is such a great place with so many great people, and I know of no place more fun or better!

Next ime maybe the pm will be working but we do have the contact author button and the reply to hit in the meantime. Could be worse, but it is getting better. Thank you!
