Description

Bowl of Fresh FruitBowl of Fresh FruitA fun and tasty fruit dessert using TREE FRUIT (in honor of Arbor Day.) This is a great way to make an easy dessert using seasonal fresh fruit!

Ingredients

  • 6 apples or other fruit, peeled and diced
  • 1 c flour
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 stick of butter (unsalted)4
  • 4 T ground cinnamon

Instructions

For this recipe, you can use a host of different types of fruit. I usually use apples, peaches or nectarines. I've never tried using berries.

Wash, peel, core and dice apples (or whatever fruit you are using. With other fruit, you can leave the peel on.) Place the fruit in a lightly greased 8" x 8" square pan or a 2 qt casserole. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, flower and cinnamon. Cut the butter into small cubes. Using a pastry blender, mix the butter in with the dry ingredients. Pour over the fruit. If you want, you can sprinkle the top with some additional cinnamon and sugar and dot it with a few pats of butter.

Bake in a 375 degree oven for 60 - 80 minutes, or until the top is nice and crunchy. Remove from the oven and cool or serve warm.

My husband likes to pour milk on his. You can put a dollop of whipping cream on top or top it with vanilla ice cream!

Notes

Makes a great fall dessert when using apples, and a lovely and refreshing summer dessert when you use fresh peaches or nectarines.

Yum!

We love this in our house! I make it quite often. I use apples and strawberries. I'll try with peaches next time. Like SandiB said try substituting plain flour with powdered oatmeal.
