Fragrance dangers

Fox News just released an article on the dangers of the chemicals in common fragrances and the effects they have on the body.

Many of you know that this is a big issue with me, as I react so strongly to some of these things, that it restricts my activities a lot - and even is the reason I can no longer work.  I encourage you to do a little research on this before you continue using fragrances in air fresheners, laundry aids, cleaning supplies, and personal care products.  We are poisoning ourselves and each other.

It is very encouraging when this issue receives any small amount of publicity - as it does bring some other people to understand the issue, and hopefully, to think twice before using some of these products around others.  Thanks for listening to my soap box (once again.)

 Blessings,

Theresa

Well I have asthma, I've

Well I have asthma, I've had it for years. My family does not wear purfume or hairspray at family gatherings. Or at least nothing really strong smelling. I have to becarefull with even the soap and shampoo that I use. Once I smelled a shampoo that was peach scented wasn't bad so I thought I would try it. Once I started lathering it the smell just kept getting stronger. I thought I was going to die before I got it rinsed out of my hair. Was not fun.

But I do hear that people that wear a lot of perfume tend to be suffering from depression. How true this is I'm not sure, seen it on one of those news channels or maybe the health channel. I say its either depression or they don't want to take a shower but once a week.Surprised Of course with some men, I think they just don't know how to put it on. TheresaSmile

I totally agree with you T..

i too suffer from asthma brought on mostly by perfume smells,,, when not at home in your own environment it's very unpredictable of the outcome,,, shopping and running simple errands can be a nightmare for me.. standing in lines at the store or Post Office for sometimes a long while and have someone come within your smelling space having on heavy Cologne or perfume makes me have to leave ,, and i might add having an attack... some people don't even think about it when they put it on... but i can tell ya it's not fun when your throat closes up and your lungs reacts by trying to shut down... have ya ever seen a fish out of water?? well thats me and if it looks hard on the fish you can imagine what I'm going through,,, along with lots of people in the same boat... so please if you ware perfumes //colones//sprays// be considerate of us who are allergic to them....

Pay it FORWARDS!! You never know, it may come back to YOU when you need it!!

Use baking soda to freshen

Use baking soda to freshen your air....it will absorb odors. It's great for cleaning your refrigerator with just plain white vinegar......Peroxide is a great disinfectant. Murphy's Oil soap is very non-toxic and has no fragrance. There are loads of fragrance free laundry soaps.....It's not the fragrance that bothers me; it's other stuff that irritates my skin and gives me rashes. My pet peeve though, is cigarette smoke!  That is one of the most deadly toxins of all....and second hand smoke is probably worse than the smoke a smoker gets from inhaling it!

YIKES

Dizzy -- If the advertising system here automatically assigns advertisements that have ANYTHING to do with the topics discussed, then I HEREBY DECLARE that I have NOTHING TO DO WITH the avoidance of those advertisers -- but I think perhaps their ads would do them more good elsewhere.

These are EXACTLY the types of products that trigger my serious illnesses!!  Sorry folks -- my thought is -- enjoy in your own space, but please don't intrude on my fresh air -- and consider carefully the safety of products to which you expose your family, friends, and especially your children.

Fragrance Free

OK -- in fairness -- some of the advertisers DO sell some "fragrance free" products.   Check the ingredients to be sure there are not hidden scents that could create issues for you.

OOPS -- Look at the advertisement beside my comment -- I'm going to go look and see if they offer any truly "fragrance free" products. :)

If the news focuses on this

If the news focuses on this enough maybe these strong wearer of perfumes will see it's not in vogue to use strong perfume any longer.  We need to be like the animal rights advocates when people wear real fur.  Just a thought.  HEHEHE  Dale

I second that!

I could not tell you how many times I have gotten physically ill or even passed out because of the strength of perfume or colonge someone was wearing. Yes, I have lost my lunch due to an immediate violent reaction to someones perfume.  I love fragrance but some of them I just can't take at all.  It can also jump start a week long migraine for me. So thanks for bringing this up.
