Forget Me Not

There are several types of Forget Me Nots, some of which are not perennial but may self seed. A delicate bouquet of blue that bloom with the Iris in my garden. Alaska's state flower.

It's hard to see on this photo, and I don't have a better close up of the white forget-me-not leaves, but it is definetely a white variation of it. I happened to be with a YNP botanist on that hike. The tiny tall leaves on the right side of the plant are yarrow....just the picture makes it hard to see.

White forget-me-not

I was very surprised to see white forget-me-nots in Yellowstone National Park, but YNP botanist explained that sometimes flower can loose its pigment due to certain soil conditions or weather conditions or other reasons. And even if you collect seeds from this white specimen, when the seeds germinate and later bloom, they are most likely to have the genetics of the regular blue forget-me-not.........so the pigment is lost not on the genetic level, but just on the level of this particular plant.T
