A reminder that Earth Day is April 22nd.  This year and I would like to challange everyone to try to either practice Earth Month or do something eco friendly for the day. I won't be mowing or driving that day. I'll be riding my bike. I may also pull some weeds and go through my house and do things like chnage my filter in my air conditioner that I won't use that day. I will probably come up with some more things as we get to that day. I will try to post a eco friendly thing for all to attempt to do  every day in this link.

TUESDAYS ECO TIP!

Let's start today with changing the light bulbs to the swirly kind. They last up to 5 years and use less electricity. They cost around $7-8 for 4 bulbs at Lowes and  Wal- Mart. They have made  up that difference in the very first month of my electric bill.

Wednesdays ECO TIP!

Turn your water off while brushing your teeth!

Thursdays ECO Tip!

Place a 1/2 gallon milk jug full of water in your toilet tanks.

Fridays ECO Tip!

Unplus your kitchen appliances, microwaves, toasters, can openers and don't forget your VCRs, DVD players and turn off your computers at night or when not in use, they use standby electricity to keep the clocks and display lights going. Plus they can be a fire hazard.

Saturdays ECO Tip!

Hang your clothes out to dry if your in a warmer climate, and colder climates do all your wash in cold water and use half the amount of soap suggested by the soap make. We really don't need all those chemicals in our clothes after all touching our skin.

Sunday ECO Tip!

Walk to church if you can. and recycle your newspaper you read today.

Karry, Thanks for

Karry, Thanks for encouraging all of us to think Earth Month.  I'm up for the challenge!

We started replacing all of our bulbs with the energy saving bulbs over five years ago... not one of them has burned out yet.  I know they save on power used, and I'm convinced you safe a lot by not having to replace the bulbs so often, too.

Light Bulbs

We changed to the swirly light bulbs also and it has helped lower our light bill as well. Melissa Thanks for the tips.

Our Walmart has the swirly

Our Walmart has the swirly ones buy one package and get another package for a penny.  Sale is going on until Earth Day. I've got to go get some smaller ones but wanted to come home and measure the ones I have now as they are too long for my ceiling fans

Eco friendly

I don't have the swirly types of light but they are the same thing. I have a lot of lights in my house and if I was turn on everyone of my lights at the same time I would only be using a total of 240 watts...We found some lights at Wal-Mart last year that were only 5 watts each in a 3-pack. We put those in everyone of our fixtures. We have ceiling fans and those big bar lights that have 3-4 bulbs a piece and it is plenty bright in the rooms when we turn them on and yes it has made a huge difference in our electric bill...
