Dividing Day lilies

Hello:

I am new at gardening. I also have day lilies, and would like to divide them. I want to divide them. If you cut off the tops, will they still bloom this year? Can I divide the asiatic lilies during this month or should I wait until they bloom? They seem to be crowded. Thanks
