This is the first year I have grown Datura. I started them from seed in mid March, zone 5. Beautiful July blooms brighten my deck!

Gloria... these are amazing! Thank you again for the seeds!

Datura Double Yellow

They are Beautiful!!!

I have the white ones this year and have had the purple singles.  They don't last long.  It is interesting how another variety would be so different.  Cool!

Spectacular!

Gloria, that IS spectacular.....Connie, do those bloom for more than just a day -- and are those open during the day or just at night? I LOVE those.....................They are so much like brugs....and so much easier to grow!

COOL!

Susan, they stay open round the clock... the blooms last about 4-5 days. As the old flowers started to fall, it produced more buds. Usually I would remove old blooms, but I wanted seed, so I left them on... and I'm getting some seed pods! I still have a few blooms on the potted plants, and the plants in the ground are just starting to bloom. I love them!

They were so easy to start from seed, in the house of course. I just put them in moist soil and, wow, I think every one of them germinated. My friends are loving them, too! LOL

Wow!

They sure are pretty! My white ones and the Fleur de Lilac only stayed open the one night....I love those....Actually, you could probably direct sow them and have them sprout. I usually grow them in pots, too...direct sowing them outside....It you get extra seeds................................hint hint hint!

Datura

You are so welcome Lav. Those are gorgeous! I've sent lots of these seeds out to members, especially last Christmas in cards...(Double Yellow Datura on the pk) if they didn't try planting them....their loss! LOL

Penny I'll check my seed stash, if I have any left they are yours.

A 'must try'!

They are beautiful, Gloria! And so easy! I sure hope everyone tried growing them. The plants in the ground grew slower, so I have lots of blooms yet to come... whahoo! And hopefully lots of seeds to share, too!

A friend called me the other day to tell me how gorgeous the plant I gave her was... she thanks you too! Smile

I'll bite...

I'll gladly try growing them....if you get lots of seeds and have enough to share.................I just think they are gorgeous flowers. Are those fragrant? I know that some varieties are......Incidentally, if you allow some of the seed pods to split open and just sort of fall where they may, you'll have plants that come back next year without having to do anything at all.

Seeds

Hopefully I'll have plenty to share with all... or at least everyone that wants some and wasn't lucky enough to get them from Gloria. Smile

The plant has a scent... but, hmmm, I'm not too sure if I really like it. I think it's one of those that some people like and some think it smells funny. Sorry, I don't have a better way to describe it. LOL

Warm season annuals usually don't germinate here until very late in spring, when the ground finally gets real warm. I'm not sure if they would have enough time to produce blooms before fall cool temps would come along. But YOU probably would have luck with self-seeding.

Gorgeous!

Beautiful flowers, Connie. Is that one fragrant? Be really careful when you go to harvest the seeds. I discovered last summer that I must be horribly allergic to Datura -- in the way that people get reactions from poison ivy because when I was messing around with it, some of the branches and leaves touched my arms.....and within a few days or less, I had the itchiest rash I had ever had...and there were welts all over my arms...and it just kept spreading. Jbaby was the one who figured out why I had that rash on my arms. I guess that's the end of me growing it.
