Daffodil buds drying up?

I hope I'm posting this ? in the correct forum.  I have daffodils that develop flower buds like they will flower, but then just dry up and never open.  This happens every spring, and is so disappointing.  Any ideas why this might be happening?  I leave the foliage alone, even divided them awhile back, relocated several, and they all perform the same.  Oh, I have even protected them overnight before if I think there might be a freeze, makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Daffodil Bud Blast

As I understand it, some cultivars are more prone to bud blast than others, including double-flowering types and those that bloom late in the season.

Bud blast is blamed on everything from too much moisture in the fall  ....  to too little in the summer ...

Late season freezes ... or temperatures that warm up too much and/or too suddenly in the spring ...

In other words, *sigh* who knows.

If your Daffs disappoint you every year, it might be best to begin to replace them with varieties which are blast resistant.
