Castor Bean: Castor Bean - red.   They are poisonous,,,all parts of the plant and the seed.   But,  they look great  at the back of a perennial bed,,,   And deer won't eat them!

Leaf color can vary from green to shades of red. All parts of this plant are poisonous. The seeds are said to be 7 times more deadly than Cobra venom.  May cause skin irritation, use care when handling.

I had forgotten about this

I had forgotten about this plant until I saw your photo. I thought I would add that my Grandad use to put the seeds into golpher holes to get rid of the little critters!

This plant wants sun

And if you are growing from seed, be sure to nick or scar the outer coating and soak it for at least 4 hrs in warm water for better germinatioin.

Does this need full sun or

Does this need full sun or can it handle part sun/part shade?  I just received some seeds and would love to grow some but am unsure of where to put them...should they be started indoors or can I start them outside after last frost?

Thanks for the information!!

Check out my trade list!!

Less sun may affect

Less sun may affect leave color, at least 5-6 hours of sun is best. I start mine inside, about 4 weeks before last frost... but they grow very quickly and could be started outdoors in warm soil. They are a very frost tender tropical... beautiful! ...if you don't have children around.
