I have loads of Zinnia, Butterfly Bush, Marigolds, Hibiscus etc. etc, just bursting with blooms. I love to take my morning and afternoon stroll around the yard and just look at the beauty all around. I'm waiting patiently for the Confederate Roses and Brugs, they are usually the last to show the lovely blooms. That usually happens in September - October and the last of my flowers to bloom. I hate to see all my plants and flowers all go to sleep for the Winter but I also have plans ahead for next years blooms.

Butterfly Bush

I am a novice at gardening  so and I just read and read what you all share on this great site. Before we moved to North Florida I planted a butterfly bush and loved to watch it grow. I am in zone 8  in North Florida - is there any special care to make it thrive more - I would like to plant one next spring. I ordered the previous plant from place called Gardners Choice. Do you have any advice regarding care or best place to order from? Thanks for sharing and good evening to you.

Hey Ayla,  I think butterfly

Hey Ayla,  I think butterfly bush should do fine in zone 8 as long as you have a cool dormant season for it.  You are in luck in that you will be able to grow the yellow flowered budleia called honeycomb.  Those of us further north here in zone 6 can't grow it, though many have tried.

Honey Comb?

Butterfly Bush: Could this be the Honey Comb? I have two of these bushes and they are awsome.Butterfly Bush: Could this be the Honey Comb? I have two of these bushes and they are awsome.

There's no special maintence for these. I fertilize all my flowers in January before new growth starts. I cut these back in the late Fall. I've had them for 3 years now and this year they have grown to a good 8-10 foot tall. The smell is soooo good!

Love 'em both!

They are both gorgeous. Are they planted together or near each other? HMMMM, I would sure like to get a whiff!

Near

They're near each other Susan, within 12 foot anyway. I had a dark midnight blue but lost it. I hope to find another plant or a cutting for next Spring's garden. The yellow attracts more bees and butterflies than the lavender. Why..I don't know. Must be something about yellow that they like better.
