National Siblings Day is a day set aside to cherish and appreciate your brothers and sisters.  Although not recognized as a "true" National holiday, tweny two state govenors have signed proclamations for this day.   Did a little research and found it's orgin.  Claudia A. Evart, the Founder and President of the National Siblings Day, founded the day after the tragic death of her brother and  sister.  What a wonderful way to honor siblings.  For those of you who don't have at least one sibling, your journey in life is different.  Brothers and sisters are one of lifes great joys but with it goes heartaches as well.  I have nine siblings, eight still living.  Only one of the siblings was a boy.  My oldest sister is old enough to be my mother.  With siblings you have to take the bitter with the sweet, as go life.  Every day should be treated as a day to celebrate your family whether it is a brother, sister, favorite neice, nephew or anyone in the circle as your family.

Anyone have any stories about brother and sisters you want to share with us?

One of each!

I have one of each, both younger than me! My sister is not quite two years younger than I am, and since our birthdays are only a day apart, we've always been pretty close. While she was going through chemo and radiation for breast cancer, and for a while afterwards (as well as the time immediately after she told me she had breast cancer,) I would make a regular ritual out of calling her every single day. Her daughter is now 13 (soon to be 14,) and I had to tell my sister that the biggest reason I stopped calling her every day was because I got majorly annoyed by finding the line busy every time I tried to call -- for hours on end.

My brother is a school principal. We do talk occasionally, and I am crazy about him. As a kid, he was the biggest trouble maker and nuisance I knew.....He turned out to be a really decent guy, though, and I find myself sitting back and chuckling when he gets annoyed at his own son for the very sorts of things he used to do to torture me and my parents.

I only have two siblings and they are as different as night and day -- and they don't talk to one another at all, really......but I love them both dearly and wouldn't trade them for anything.

It's rather comforting to see that the behavior that I saw in both of them and found most annoying when we were growing up (as did my parents,) is exactly what they are both seeing in their own kids. That old saying about "What goes around comes around" couldn't be truer!

I guess I'll try to call my sister later!

My siblings are technically

My siblings are technically half siblings, however, I hold them in my heart as full fledged siblings - they total 5.  My mother gave me a sister, whom I grew up with.  Then my father, married two more times, had two children whom I knew about, but never knew where they went as their mother took them to the US.  (and they were young enough that they never knew I existed) In 2001, as a result of 9/11, my sister found my father and the rest is history.....we reunited the next year and this particular sister, 6 years my junior, and I have been very close.  I also have two more half sisters and a half brother....we were able to have a family reunion, three years ago, with my father and stepmother, the year before my father passed away.  We are geographically challenged, so email is our form of keeping in contact with each other now.
