Apple Gourds

We grew a crop of apple gourds a couple of years ago... still have a few hanging around.  A lot of people paint them up to look like apples of course... complete with worms.  Others of us enjoy the marblelized texture of the dried skin and leave them plain.  Don't know if if they really get big enough for birfd houses... never considered it to be truthful.... maybe some of the bigger uns.

Anyway might be time to try them again next year.  The kids at church sure had fun painting them up.

They should be big enough for

They should be big enough for wrens and other small birds to build nests in.

Bird Houses or....

They'd be cool as bird houses or as bird feeders -- if you could figure out how to turn them into a feeder........but I was also thinking that they'd make a very cool and unusual component in a center piece on a Thanksgiving table.

These are so cool! I love gourds, too! What do you do with them? Have you ever thought of turning them into bird houses or feeders?
