As a child, I know what the sound of spring sounds like. Birds chirping and frogs croaking. We use to sit on the porch at night and listen to all the frogs. But, I havent heard them now and wonder why? Have you ever thought about the sound of a silent spring? Think about it. No birds, no frogs, not even a old squeech owl. Not even a butterfly fluttering around you. Most of what has happened to lots of them are the chemicals that the farmers use on there crops. What can we do to help? With all the chemicals on the market, we need to help save what little bit is left. Even some of the insects are gone, and the bees not as plentiful as they were. I would fall asleep when I was a child, listening to a whip oh well. If you've never heard one, you have missed something really peaceful to hear. And a dove in the evenings would be calling their mates. I still hear a few doves but not like I did when I was a child. So if you are using chemcials in your garden, and farmers think about what damages you could be doing to our beauties of our world. The silent of spring is very close to having a silent spring with no bees buzzing, no birds chirping, just a still night and morning. Our kids and grandkids won't ever hear what we grandparents have heard in the night and during the morning. A beautiful sound of life. But instead, by the time they are grown, it will be a SILENT SPRING.
Love this....When I was
Love this....When I was growing up these were the sounds I fell asleep to...then when I was first married we lived on 34 acers on the river and my daughter was bledde to hear them...went to the city for a few years and I could not get to sleep ...hubby found a tape for me to play ..was nature sounds...so I would run a fan on low and pop in the tape and fall fast asleep...now I am blessed to be back to a place that I hear these things again..

Thank you
As a you girl I was always very aware of the environment and all the damage we were doing to it. I have always tried to do my part to take care of the earth. I started gardening about 9 years ago and have learned a little about doing organically. I have a littleone to think about now so everything I do has an impact right here at my house. I want him to run around in the yard barefoot without thinking about chemicals in the lawn. I want him to pick cherry tomatoes this summer with me having to run and wash it off first.
Thanks for putting the thoughts out there.

This sound....
A real favorite sound of mine is the "honkers"...I love the drafting formation they fly & the "honking" as if they are demanding attention.
Don't we all look up as soon as we hear them?
Thanks for making us think & appreciate Jo

You are so right, Jo!
Jo, I grew up in the city, and you don't see or hear much in the way of nice sounds in a city like Chicago....so when I moved to Iowa, I started hearing chickadees and other birds. I loved their sounds and songs.
Now that we are in Texas, I hear lots of neat sounding birds. We've got loads of mockingbirds, finches, chickadees, cattle egrets, cardinals and many more...and of course, loads of hummingbirds. I didn't realize or understand what I was missing until I was an adult. Now, whenever I go back to Chicago, I miss these wonderful sounds. There's nothing like the sounds of silence -- they let you hear all there is to hear in nature.

This is True
Yes you are true about not seeing and hearing alot of the things we have heard in our past. I do belive that chemicals has done alot of damage for sure. Thanks for making all of us think about the sounds of spring from our past.
You tell it sister !
I do the same thing. I tell all of my friends, family and my customers too about the joys of being natural/organic.
Keep up the good work !

Be as organic and natural as possible and encourage others to do the same.
