Here's how you can show your fellow GH members you appreciate their contributions!

I recently had a number of people come to me inquiring about those stars you see below blog entries, trade lists and articles. They weren't sure what they were for, or what the stars meant. As usual, disgett (Dale) had a brilliant idea....so she suggested that I try to explain this to all of you.....I mentioned Dale because I don't want to take credit for something that was essentially her idea....I am merely explaining this to you all.

Be Ready for Spring and Summer Weather Situations.

Today is the first day of spring - or the Vernal Equinox. Every spring, it seems that a certain part of the country is prone to tornadic activity. Likewise, come June 1st - even though that's technically three weeks before the start of summer, the parts of the country that lie along the Gulf or Atlantic coasts have to contend with the ravages of hurricanes.

Easter Memories

The true meaning of Easter was always talked about in our household and preparing the celebration of the Resurrection was a busy time. There was the sunrise celebration, the egg hunt in the park and this year the boss and his family were coming to dinner.

After weeks of baking and cooking, I collapsed into a chair the night before Easter.

I was watching my four year old twins play with their cars on the floor with their older brother and I realized I had taught them the important things but had neglected their fantasy life and the joy of childhood wonder.

“I wonder if that darn rabbit is going to sniff around again this year…” I mused. Suddenly I had the full attention of the three boys.

“What rabbit.” queried the eldest?

Even an apartment dweller can have a garden!

I often hear apartment dwellers talk about wanting to have a garden but they say they feel frustrated or unhappy because they feel as though this is something beyond the reach of the average apartment dweller. As someone who has been living in apartments in various places for over 30 years, I can tell you that this isn't entirely true. Granted, it depends a lot on where you live and whether your apartment consists solely of a building or if you have several buildings.

How to Avoid Getting Burned on Trades.

If you are a seasoned trader or older member – even if you haven’t traded much, here are some ideas to help you avoid being burned in trades.

* If you are trading with a newbie, look at their profile before you agree to trade with them. Check out how many posts they have posted and how long they have been members. Look to see how active they have been and whether they have contributed to the site. This might give you a clue as to what you're getting yourself into in advance.

* If they haven’t posted at all, don’t trade with them.

Jack's Beanstalk and Other Plant Supports

Jack's beanstalk must have had one heck of a support to prop up a vine that big.   If you don't support your stretching stalks, you could have a giant problem on your hands.   In fact, unsupported plants can break off from the sheer weight of their leaves and blossoms let alone developing food.  Veggies that touch the ground because of bending stems will often not mature evenly or correctly, or they could acquire molds and soft spots.
