The Topsy Turvey Bird's Nest?

I'm sure you all have heard about those Topsy Turvey tomato planters....or seen the TV, magazine or Internet ads for them. I've always been curious about what these tomato planters would be like and whether the tomatoes would actually grow up towards the sun. I remembered seeing upside down trees at the MassMOCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art,) on a trip several years ago to see my brother. We'd gone to the museum on a family excursion and saw the trees when we walked toward the entrance. Ever since I saw those trees, I've been curious about growing stuff upside down.

Even an apartment dweller can have a garden!

I often hear apartment dwellers talk about wanting to have a garden but they say they feel frustrated or unhappy because they feel as though this is something beyond the reach of the average apartment dweller. As someone who has been living in apartments in various places for over 30 years, I can tell you that this isn't entirely true. Granted, it depends a lot on where you live and whether your apartment consists solely of a building or if you have several buildings.

Early Planting

While most farmers must wait until after tax-time to plant their veggies, it is possible to begin your garden well before the last frost. If you choose plants that mature early and are cold hardy, a little planning and plant TLC can help you yield the first vegetables in your neighborhood.

Choose Cold-Hardy Veggies:

Let’s get real for moment: Unless you have a greenhouse, none of your plants will grow in freezing conditions. You can find hybrid varieties that will mature quickly in cooler temperatures so that your family can start eating fresh, organic foods earlier than usual. Lettuce, cauliflower, carrots and peas are obvious choices.
